U.S. Soccer has named Caleb Porter the head coach of the U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team, effective immediately. In addition to Porter, U.S. Soccer has hired former U.S. international and three-time World Cup veteran Tab Ramos to coach the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team.

The U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team defeated Russia 2-0, then tied UAE 1-1 in the 2011 AGS Cup. Local Herber Mejia-Flores (McLean Youth Soccer; Manassas Park, Va.) scored the lone goal for the U.S. against UAE.

For the second time in less than two weeks, another Georgetown University men's soccer recruit - Josh Turnely - has topped 100 career goals. 


Two former Freestate United ECNL players, Chinyelu Asher (Purdue) and Jocelyn McCoy (Monmouth), have earned Player of the Week awards for their play in the collegiate ranks this week.    

The Good Counsel high school girls team (Olney, Md.) has been ranked the number one team in the country by ESPN's POWERADE FAB 50.  

 

DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Md.) was ranked the number two team in the country in ESPN's POWERADE FAB 50 this week after handling Bishop Ireton (Va.), 5-0 and routing St. Mary's Ryken, 13-1, last week.

Major League Soccer will hold the 2012 MLS Expansion Draft via conference call on Wednesday, November 23, and the 2011 MLS Re-Entry Process drafts will take place on December 5 and 12, 2011.

The Baltimore Blast has added three players to the team's 2011-12 roster: forwards Matt Watson and Warren Ukah are returning to Baltimore and defender/midfielder Stephen DeRoux will make his Blast debut this season. 

The NSCAA's College Soccer Review Show this week highlighted UMBC's 2-0 victory over New Hampshire in the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer. 

 

The No. 21 Virginia men's soccer team visits Virginia Tech Friday evening in a key ACC matchup. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Thompson Field.

Fox to get World Cup TV rights: Sports Business Journal Daily is reporting that the FIFA World Cup will have a new U.S. TV partner in 2018 and 2022. The decision to award the rights to Fox is a surprising development, since incumbent ESPN was widely believed to be the front-runner to retain the World Cup rights.  

 

Abby Wambach honored by WSF: U.S. Women's National Team and former Washington Freedom star striker Abby Wambach was honored as the Women's Sports Foundation as the Sportswoman of the Year (Team Sports) at the 32nd Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Gala.  

 

U.S. Futsal eliminated from Grand Prix: The U.S. Futsal National Team fell 10-7 against Belgium on Oct. 18 in Manaus, Brazil, which knocked them out of the Futsal Grand Prix. The team lost all three of their matches at the invitational tournament, though they had their best match in the final game. Local defender Grady Renfrow (FC Leones; Washington D.C.) played on the squad.
