> U.S. looking for win against Algeria to advance at FIFA
World Cup After a stunning two-goal comeback against Slovenia that held their
position in second place in Group C, the U.S. heads into the third group
game with the knowledge that a victory guarantees a spot in the
knockout phase. They face an Algerian team still with everything to play
for following their 0-0 draw with England, the Desert Foxes knowing

> Cristman scores, D.C. United dominates in 1-0 win over El Salvador Despite a huge turnout of El Salvador fans at RFK
Stadium Saturday night, D.C. United prevailed in a charity match over

goal from the beginning, and substitute Adam Cristman finally gave
United the game-winner in the 51st minute. Defender Marc Burch made his

sesmoid bone in his right foot in early March. [more +]

South African Scenes: Check out the first two blog posts by Ben
Mahler's on his personal observations and experiences for Potomac Soccer
Wire while in South Africa for the World Cup. Post 1: AYOBA! - vuvuzelas are everywhere and it's hard not
to get caught up in the "Ayoba!", a phrase translating into joy and
happiness. Post 2 (USA...A-O-K?) focuses on other nations'
reactions to the disallowed U.S. goal vs Slovenia
Scouting For Talent At The World Cup: The World Cup is a busy time
for players, coaches, fans...and scouts. With the best players in the
world stepping on the same pitch, it's the perfect window shopping
opportunity for clubs around the world. These clubs get to see the
players in one place and under intense pressure, and the result can mean
lucrative contracts for those who perform well on the world's biggest
stage. This BBC article takes a look at the
life of a scout during the month of a World Cup.
International Soccer Managers - The Strangest Men In Sports: Whereas
managers of domestic clubs work through a constant stream of practices,
press conferences and games, national team managers aren't so
preoccupied. For most of the year, their players are off with club
teams. The managers are left to wander the soccer world alone, like the
generals of disbanded armies.
