Landon Donovan Scores His First Premier League Goal For Everton: The U.S. Men's National Team's Landon Donovan has scored his first Premier League goal. In the 19th minute against Sunderland, Donovan struck a left-footed shot off of a headed pass from Tim Cahill to give Everton a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Less Injuries With Cleats-Natural Grass Combination: This is the conclusion from a study by investigators at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) that tested the strain placed on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of four different shoe-surface interactions: Astroturf/turf shoe, modern playing turf/turf shoe, modern turf/cleat, and natural grass/cleat. With the natural grass/cleat combination, there is less force occurring at your ligament for the same cut than with the others (note this is only non-contact injuries). The study appears in the January 2010 issue of the Journal of Biomechanical Engineering.
Is U.S. Soccer's Development Academy Working?: In 2007, U.S. Soccer began the "Development Academy," an initiative to provide the best youth teams and players a professional environment and highly competitive games. Has it worked? Check out J.R. Eskilson's column about the Development Academy, the move away from "development," and the need for yet another overhaul of youth soccer in the U.S.
