Paraguayan Star Shot In Head In Mexico City: Salvador Cabanas, a forward for the Mexican team Club America and star player for Paraguay's World Cup team, was shot in the head Monday in the bathroom of a Mexico City bar. He is in critical condition, but was conscious when he arrived at a hospital where he was being operated on to remove the bullet. Two suspects have been detained, though motives and other details surrounding the shooting are still unclear.

Blatter Indicates 2018 World Cup Will Go To Europe: FIFA president Sepp Blatter has publicly stated that a deal is being negotiated for Europe to host the 2018 World Cup. England, Russia and joint bids from Spain and Portugal, and Belgium Netherlands are currently competing to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. This has been a rumor for awhile, but Blatter's confirmation dampens the dreams of Americans hoping to bring the tournament back to the U.S. Our best hope now is getting the World Cup in 2022, but we won't find out until the announcement is made in December.

Rumor: Former WNT Forward Christie Welsh to Washington Freedom: A reliable source tells PSW that former U.S. Women's National Team forward Christie Welsh will be signing with the Washington Freedom before the 2010 season. After one season with St. Louis Athletica, Welsh has reportedly canceled her tryout with the expansion Philadelphia Independence as she's agreeing to terms with the Freedom.
