A trio of George Mason men's soccer alumni have moved on to the professional ranks with European teams: Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe (Finland 1st division, FC Viikingit), Jonathan Borrajo (Sweden 2nd division, Ljungskile), and Axel Levry (Germany 2nd division, Energie Cottbus).

Former Bowie High School soccer star Amanda Poach missed the last two seasons at Santa Clara University with leg injuries, but will not return for her last year of eligibility after she was selected in the third round of the Women's Professional Soccer draft by Saint Louis Athletica.

Three George Mason's men's players were named to the VaSID Men's Soccer All-State Team. Junior forward Victor Freeman was named to the first team, while seniors Richard Edgar and Sean Kelley both made the second team.

---- Notes ----

Check out this ESPN column on the growing list of injuries and how they are eroding the U.S. Men's National Team's World Cup hopes this summer in South Africa.

The Maryland Stadium Authority approved a $100,000 study on Tuesday to explore the viability of building a professional soccer stadium in Baltimore, one step in a plan to lure D.C. United to the state.

Former D.C. United player Freddy Adu says he is confident his game will pick up in Greece despite a spotty career in Europe. Adu is hoping to make his debut with Aris on Sunday when they host league-leading Panathinaikos.

D.C. United's newest player, Australian forward Danny Allsopp, sat down with D.C. United's blog "Behind The Badge" to answer questions about his excitement in coming to DC, playing in England, the similarities between MLS and Australia's A-League, and the importance of tradition in the sport.

Chad Ashton has been named as D.C. United's Technical Director. Ashton takes on the new role following three seasons as an assistant coach under Tom Soehn.

La Nueva (WDCN-LP 87.7 FM), will serve as D.C. United's official Spanish-language radio partner this season, broadcasting all United first team games.

United Soccer Leagues announced the 2010 season schedule for the USL Second Division. The 60-game regular season schedule opens with the previously announced three opening night games on April 17 and will close on August 14 with another three-game set.

A celebration to honor the 2009 Virginia men's soccer team, which won the NCAA and ACC Championships, will take place Saturday at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Maryland men's soccer program and head coach Sasho Cirovski have hired Matt Burke as Director of Soccer Operations, a newly-formed position.

Former D.C. United assistant coach John Trask has been tabbed as the University of Wisconsin men's soccer head coach.

On Saturday, January 23rd, D.C. United's Under 17 Academy team will travel to South Africa to participate in the 2010 Gauteng Future Championships. This elite international competition features twelve youth clubs from five different continents, with United arriving as the only North American representative.

The Virginia Youth Soccer Association is holding its annual Convention today and tomorrow at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va.

Maryland is bidding to host a youth soccer championship in 2011 and 2012 that could bring more than $12 million in revenue to the state each year.

The ninth edition of US Club Soccer's signature national championship competition - the 2010 National Cup IX - will kick off in just over four months, with the National Cup IX Finals in Virginia Beach, Va. Click here for dates, locations, and application information.

DeMatha High School has never had outdoor athletic facilities of their own until now. Construction will start in March on three fields at Heurich Community Park in West Hyattsville (less than 3 miles from the school), which several DeMatha teams will begin using in November.

Permanent Home For D.C. United Linked to U.S. World Cup Bid: After the Maryland Stadium Authority approved a $100,000 study to explore the viability of building a pro soccer stadium in Baltimore, D.C. United president Kevin Payne commented that it could impact which city would be in the final cut should the U.S. get the World Cup in either 2018 or 2022. Will Baltimore or DC win out? We continue to wait for an answer and a new home for United...

New Style Of Play For D.C. United?: D.C. United has always played an attractive style of soccer, and President Kevin Payne has even openly criticized other MLS teams for taking a boring and conservative approach to the game. With the loss of two Brazilians (Luciano Emilio and Fred) and the acquisition of a physical Australian not known for his skill on the ball (Danny Allsopp), could new coach Curt Onalfo be changing the beautiful style of play United is known for?

The Two Escobars Airs May 11: ESPN's series "30 for 30" will take a look back at the lives of Colombia's Andres and Pablo Escobar. Jeff Zimbalist's film documents their shared fanatical childhood love for soccer, and the two very different paths their lives took. Andres became one of the country's most beloved players, while Pablo rose through the ranks of the criminal underground to become not only the most notorious drug baron of all time, but also arguably the secret weapon responsible for Colombian soccer's unprecedented rise to glory. No doubt this will be a fascinating look at the sport and crime in Colombia, as well as the connections between the murders of the two Escobars.
