Words of Advice To Every Player From Landon Donovan: Check out this quote from Landon Donovan from shortly after his second impressive performance for Everton FC of the English Premier League this weekend, then see if you agree with my advice to our own youth players. Comments encouraged! "When I was younger it was about me doing well. Me scoring, and me being the center of things - but now I get joy out of winning."
Mwanga - One (or Two) And Done?: First pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, Danny Mwanga, came to the U.S. on refugee status in 2006. His father, an advisor for the Dem. Rep. of Congo dictator Mobutu, had disappeared after he was overthrown. Check out this great article on Mwanga's background and how the MLS might not be the dream it is for the other first round picks. Mwanga reluctantly turned down European trials to play with the Philadelphia Union, but he is talking about playing in France after he establishes himself as a professional. If all the hype around this 6'2"athletic goal-machine is true, don't expect that to take very long at all.
LA Sol Coach Quietly Removed: Abner Rogers, notably absent from the WPS Draft, will no longer be coaching the Los Angeles Sol. Rogers was reportedly dismissed back in December, but is removal is only now being made public. No reason was given for Rogers' dismissal, though this move could be part of the shake-up related to the pending sale of the team to a new ownership group.
Own Part of an English Pro Team With Me?: Some of you may remember this from the news about two years ago - an internet-organized group of fans putting money up to buy a professional English club. It was all over the international soccer news when it happened, and the group - called MyFootballClub - bought a feisty little side by the name of Ebbsfleet United. Now we need more owners, hope you'll join.
