> YPSL Summer League Tryouts for U11 thru U16 Boys and Girls
YPSL (Youth Premier Soccer League) Summer League Tryouts for U11 thru U16 Boys and Girls:
- Saturday December 5, 2009 @ Western Regional Park from 9:30am to 11:30am.
- Sunday December 6, 2009 @ Western Regional Park from 9:30am to 11:30am.
The YPSL is sanctioned by US Club Soccer, which - through its 'ID2' program - provides standout players the chance to be identified and given further development opportunities at the national level. ID2 identifies players regardless of their affiliation and in their own environment as they compete with their club teams. The YPSL runs from mid-June to the last weekend of July so as not to clash with clubs' spring seasons, while offering players continued development opportunities during the summer. Should Donovan Stay Or Go?: Sources say MLS is trying to renew Landon Donovan's deal, potentially doubling his current salary in a bid to keep the best player in the league home. However, Donovan has done all there is to do here in the US, and as much as he makes MLS better, in the long run it's better for American soccer for him to leave. He needs to go to Europe, to a team where he can make a serious impact, where he will be a regular and making highlight reels on Sky Sports. For me, it's not about him proving he can succeed there - I know he can. It's about him being even more of an ambassador for American soccer by proving to the European establishment that he can hang. As a youth coach, I see the passion in our young players growing every year, but I see it in their knowledge and following of euro stars, not MLS. We need Landon to go outplay Robinho, or become the runaway leading scorer at Tottenham, or steel some limelight at Inter. THAT would help soccer here most at this point.

Assistant Girls Varsity Coach Wanted: A little personal plea here. I've just taken the head coaching job in a top high school Program near the border of Loudoun and Fairfax Counties, and need an assistant. I'm looking for someone who I can learn from myself, who can run practice sessions on their own, but is also comfortable in an assistant role and has experience coaching older girls. On paper, I'd say you should have at least a USSF "C" license or equivalent, but it's not an absolute. Interested, or know someone who might be? Just reply to this newsletter or email me directly at editor@potomacsoccerwire.com.
