Eric Wynalda Slams MLS, Regrets Move From Europe in 1996: In a two part interview with Yanks-Abroad.com, former US National Team star and current co-host of Fox Football Fone-in, Eric Wynalda pulls no punches when it comes to his view of Major League Soccer's treatment of its players, and of his own regret for having left in his trailblazing career in European soccer to help launch MLS in 1996. "Professionally and personally it might have been the biggest mistake of my career," Wynalda admitted [in the Yanks-Abroad.com interview]. "When I came back and played I was taken advantage of, and it did not help me financially nor help my career as a player at all." [This links to part I of the interview, get part II here]
FIFA's Emergency Meeting: FIFA president Sepp Blatter has called an emergency meeting of its executive committee ahead of the World Cup draw in South Africa. The meeting will take place on Dec. 2, two days before the draw in Cape Town. They didn't make the topics of discussion public, but what changes will this meeting bring about? Maybe video replay after the Thierry Henry incident? FIFA will also likely discuss the match-fixing allegations in Europe and violence at recent World Cup qualifying games.
Wigan Players Refunding Ticket Costs After 9-1 Loss: Players on English Premier League team Wigan Athletic have announced they will personally refund ticket purchase for fans who traveled to suffer through their 9-1 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. It's not as big a price tag as you might think, as only 565 seats were allocated to for visiting fans, but the gesture is enormous. "We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters," said Wigan captain Mario Melchiot via the official club website. "This is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their loyalty."
