The LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake will face off Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET in the MLS Cup 2009 at Qwest Field in Seattle. Both teams beat improbable odds to make it to championship game, but only one of these "underdogs" can hoist the Anschutz Trophy. Will it be last season's last place finisher and go from worst to first, or will it be just the second expansion team to reach the title game?

You may have seen the Golme-brand ads on our web site and in this newsletter. If you haven't looked into them yet, you should - they are a wonderful product. I have three in my car and use one almost every day when coaching. They are literally a full-size, sturdy goal that you can set up in about 3 minutes, yet fit into a small duffel bag you can put in the front seat of any car. Golme has recently lowered their retial prices as well, and our parent company - HummerSport, LLC is an affiliate. If you you're interested in the goals, call 703-433-1887.

Thierry Henry's Handling Puts France in Finals: Sure you've seen it by now? If you're French, the reaction likely is "it's part of the game", but if you're from Northern Ireland, no doubt you feel very, very "wronged." Upon viewing the replay, it's clearly a shame the referees did not catch the infraction, but I think everyone who's played the game has had a ball like this come to them. I don't think Henry had enough time to think things through. The ball just hit his hand in the speed of play, and instead of pulling away, his reflexes were to resist the pressure he felt on his hand and push the ball down into his path. Intentional? Yes. But not premeditated to the point where Henry should fear for his life if he ever sets foot in an Irish pub again. I don't think that would be fair. It would be great if they just replayed the game, but even though this is the biggest incident of its kind since the "Hand of God," a replay just isn't going to happen. The only replay that will come out of this is an acceleration in FIFA's use of instant replay - perhaps as soon as the World Cup itself. The game will be changed forever from that point forward, and I fear for the worse, as a result. It will separate the elite game from the one the masses play, ruining soccer's biggest strength as a globally unifying sport. Here's Henry's reaction to Ireland's request for a replay.

Van Persie Bets on Placenta Fluid Massage: You heard it right. Arsenal's Dutchman Robin van Persie is headed to the Netherlands to undergo treatment that focuses on massaging an injured area with placenta fluid. A former teammate claims to have cut a hamstring injury down from six weeks to one with the same treatment. If it works, how long till we see profiteers offering the service to u7 parent coaches in the US promising to help little Johnny win the local rec league cup?

To Barclay, It's All Football: Annapolis, Md.'s Devin Barclay was a soccer phenomenon growing up, and played for McDonogh high school, youth national teams, and the MLS (including D.C. United). At the age of 25, Barclay retired from professional soccer and went back to college at The Ohio State University. The new Buckeye walked onto the football team as a kicker, and had the chance to become a hero when their first string place kicker was injured. Last Saturday, Barclay hit a 39-yard field goal in overtime to vault the Buckeyes into first place in the Big Ten and a earn spot in the Rose Bowl.

Ben Olsen Retiring?: Steven Goff reported this morning that D.C. United Captain Ben Olsen is contemplating retirement. Sounds odd considering several recent comments the midfielder has made in public about wanting to play as long as he could. Is it possible this is an attempt to keep him from being selected by former D.C. United coach Peter Nowak in next week's MLS Expansion Draft for the new Philadelphia Union? Is Olsen willing to fall on his own career sword just to keep his beloved United from having to "waste" a protected roster spot on him? I woudln't put it past him, as he cares that much for his team. I also wouldn't be surprised if he goes through with this, to see him on the sideline wearing a coach's shirt instead of what will certainly one day be a retired #14 jersey.

Seattle's Space Needle Painted With MLS Ball: Is there anything about Seattle's first year in MLS that hasn't left every MLS fan outside of that city full of envy? First year in the league, record attendance, US Open Cup Championship, downtown stadium venue, and widespread recognization as a MAJOR sport throughout the city. Now, they even painted their most famous landmark with an MLS ball in honor of Sunday's MLS Cup Final. Washington, DC won't even paint the road signs on Rte 295 leading to lot 8. I'm alsmost as green as their a Sounders uniform.
