Bad Fields in West Virginia?: Watching the video of the Region I matches on USYouthSoccer.org, the fields from every venue pictured look like a cow pasture. balls bouncing on simple passes, long grass, and divots. What's the reason again for holding one of the region's top tournaments in one of the hardest places to get to, on the fringes of the region's geography? Surely there are better fields in West Virginia somewhere? Poor fields may not specifically favor a team that likes to play boom-ball soccer, but they are absolutely a disadvantage for teams that try the play the fast paced, tactically-superior, and possession-oriented soccer all the top minds and talking heads in our sport are calling for. Why then does the biggest youth soccer organization in the country put their most important games on fields like that? |
