The Elite Clubs National League ("ECNL") has announced the inaugural member clubs for the 2009-2010 season. Only four clubs in Maryland and Virginia were included. Bethesda, FC Virginia, Freestate, and Virginia Rush will compete in a year-long competition from August to July at major college showcase events, culminating in the ECNL National Championship in Seattle, WA in July 2010.

Six USL2 players from our area were selected for Team of the Week honors for the third week of the USL season: Brian Rowland, Andrew Marshall, and Val Teixeira (Crystal Palace Baltimore); Sascha Gorres and Mike Burke (Richmond Kickers); Gary Brooks (Real Maryland).

The Freestate Elite U-17 boys' soccer team advanced to the MD State Cup Final with two victories last weekend. Elite notched a 4-1 win against Soccer Association of Columbia Premier in the quarterfinals Saturday and beat the Freestate Dragons, 3-1, in the semifinals Sunday.

U-16 D.C. United Academy player Kennedy O'Shea has been recognized for his outstanding play with a call-up to the U.S. U-14 National Team camp that is scheduled to take place from May 2-9 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

McLean Boys Soccer is experiencing a breakout soccer season after a tough '08 campaign, according to reporter Rich Sander's review of their season to date.

Herndon Boys Soccer is making great strides this season despite a much different look to the squad from last year due to transfer and graduation of key players, according to Coach Sean Lanigan.

Stone Bridge picked up a 4-1 victory against Langley in Monday night's Virginia AAA Liberty District matchup.

Norfolk Academy girls soccer (9-1, 6-0 TCIS), ranked second in South Hampton Roads, moved to No. 1 in the latest Virginia Independent Schools Division I poll.

Megan Nickerson, a Poquoson High School soccer and field hockey player, is one of six Virginia High School League students statewide to win the Wachovia/VHSL state Group AA Citizenship, a $1000 scholarship.

Former Washington Freedom players Siri Mullinix and Mia Hamm are part of the inaugural class being inducted into the Hall of Freedom at halftime of Sunday's match against Saint Louis Athletica at 6 p.m. at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Real Maryland FC is offering a Mother's Day treat of free admission to their May 9th game against local rivals Crystal Palace. Moms simply need to visit the table outside the stadium - with their child to pick up your free ticket.

The Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club has announced an agreement with Collegiate School to manage their new youth development soccer programs beginning in the fall. The programs will serve Goochland County and Western Henrico County.

Lake Braddock's Emmanuel Kassim scored late on a cross in the game against South County to earn a tie in Virginia AAA Patriot District play Tuesday night. The result puts Lake Braddock (6-1-4, 5-1-1) in position to secure the top seed in the district tournament should they beat Hayfield on Saturday.

Real MD's U14 boys open up play this Saturday at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD against Match Fit Chelsea Academy at 4pm.

On May 6, Chantilly will host Centreville for Youth League and Community Night. The girls' game kicks off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys' game at 7pm. Youth-league players wearing their jerseys will be admitted for free and there will also be $1 ice cream from Milwaukee's Frozen Custard.
