Steven Goff is reporting on his Soccer Insider blog that $1.9 million man Marcelo Gallardo has officially been released by D.C. United, clearing the way for him to return to his homeland of Argentina to finish out his career. Rumors persist that he will sign with River Plate. This makes the second year in a row United has had a big name, big paycheck, Argentinian International player pulled out from under them at the last minute. It does free up a Designated Player spot for the team, which they may use, may sit on, or could trade away.

Former D.C. United stand-out Bobby Convey looks likely to move from Reading, recently telling Yanks-Abroad.com "It is getting really frustrating that people think I am always hurt." PSW has learned that FC Fredericksburg will not be fielding a W-League "Lady Gunners" team this coming season, choosing instead to focus on their PDL and Super-20 teams. According to VP Martin Dell, the club needs to focus on building their fan and sponsor base in order to better support a W-League team in future.

Check out this Q&A with Washington Freedom's new player Parrissa Eyorokon. Embarrassing Mexican Voodoo: I know we have readers who are fans of Mexico, and I truly hope you win 8 of your 10 hex round qualifiers and have a good World Cup, but this stunt being pulled with voodoo dolls is ridiculous. I could not believe Radio Shack - an American-based company - was participating when I first read the stories on Tuesday, and was pleasantly relieved today when the plug was pulled by the home office. Did someone really think it was OK to print a picture of an American player getting their leg cut off, bruised, and wearing the US Flag on their jersey was even remotely in good sportsmanship? I can see it in the parking lot before a game, but not promoted by a US-owned company! On a side note, if the Mexican fans have resorted to voodoo in an attempt to beat team USA, things down south are in worse shape than I think most of us realize. Will Sven ever get another job if he doesn't get El Tri to South Africa?

32,000 Owners Make History: Well, 31,999 because I voted to 'abstain'. It's been a while since I mentioned my 1:32,000 ownership of Ebbsfleet United, but thought this was a worthy case to bring up. Though I don't spend as much time as many of the members/owners, it is in fact pretty cool to be part of something like MyFootballClub and to share in major decisions of the club. The team is taking on new owners all the time. Love to have you join us.

How Can 300 Million Women Be Wrong?: The Germany-based consultancy Sport+Markt AG has released a study of saying over 300 million of the estimated 800 million world soccer fans are women. "The times when men ruled world football [soccer] are over," said Executive Director Hartmut Zastrow. The firm predicts a surge in products and services marketed to women through soccer channels. The study of 20,000 women did not include the United States however.

OMG! What a Goal: (Volume Alert, this is a video link) If David Beckham doesn't come back to MLS, this goal might have just doubled the transfer fee MLS receives for letting him go. For those not up on the details, although Beckham has a 5-year deal with MLS, there is an out clause he can trigger after three (this year). If Milan swoops for him with an offer for $20 million - or more, could MLS really turn it down? They're in the black already from the Beckham experiment, and $15 million could increase each teams' salary cap by $500,000 each for two years - which in my opinion would be much better for the sport here. This "Designated Player" experiment is interesting, but it's looking more and more like a money grab. I prefer teams being able to pay enough to compete with at least the Scandinavian leagues that are stealing our talent because they can offer more pay - even though the level of play can be worse then MLS!
