---- Boasts ----

Navy senior goalkeeper Lizzie Barnes and junior defender Shelly Moeller have been named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region team as second-team selections.

Loyola College senior forward Theresa Ferraina was named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region Third Team for her excellent performance on the field and in the classroom. Ferraina carries a 4.0 grade point average and is a finance major.

Salisbury senior Kelli Salter was named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas College Women Scholar All-East Region third team. Junior Christina Eury received an honorable mention. This is the first time either player has received this honor.

---- Notes ----

D.C. United will return to Charleston, SC this pre-season to compete in the annual Carolina Challenge Cup. They will be joined by fellow MLS teams Toronto FC and Real Salt Lake, and by USL-1 hosts Charleston Battery. United missed the event the past two years due to international competitions.

Former UVA, D.C.United, and U.S. MNT star Tony Sanneh has been given another chance at professional soccer by long time coach Bruce Arena. After sitting out the 2008 MLS season, Arena has invited Sanneh on trial with his Los Angeles Galaxy team.

Washington Freedom draft pick Briana Scurry will be a guest on the Kick This! radio show in Rochester on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11:40 a.m. Listen to the interview live at www.whtk.com or archived at www.kickthis.com.

Women's Professional Soccer Commissioner Tonya Antonucci unveiled the new PUMA® Official WPS Match Ball at the PUMA booth last Thursday during the NSCAA Convention in St. Louis.

The Baltimore Blast return home tonight to face the Monterrey La Raza for the first time. At stake is the safety of Baltimore's No. 1 spot in the National Indoor Soccer League. A win would give the first-place Blast a two-game lead. A loss would leave Baltimore tied with Monterrey for first place.

The Richmond Kickers Indoor take on the Virginia Legacy at SCOR, Sports Center of Richmond tomorrow at 7pm.

The Maryland Tigers suffered a loss, 8-6, against the Winchester Impact on January 4 in their second away game of the season.

In US Soccer Development Academy U15/16 action this past weekend, the Richmond Strikers tied their game against Bridge FA, while the Kickers lost to the same team. Virginia Rush lost their game on Sunday but won on Monday, 2-1. The U17/18 teams had a good weekend; the Strikers tied, the Kickers won, Virginia Rush won both of their games.

The acceptance list for the boys' weekend of the Jefferson Cup has been posted on the Richmond Strikers web site.

Application deadline is January 30th for the 2009 Maryland State Cup, U14-U19 age groups.

The recent 2009 Maryland Futsal State Championship results and the list of MVP recognitions have been posted. The next stop for qualified champions and finalists is the US Futsal Northeast/ Mid-Atlantic Championship in New York City, February 14 - 16, 2009.

Plenty of D.C. United news & notes from day one of training camp, as detailed by the Soccer Insider.

---- Editor ----

Videos of National Team Training: Ever watch a live soccer game on TV and wish the announcers would just shut their mouths and let you watch? US Soccer has gotten in the habit of posting videos of their national team training where all you hear is the players and the coaches in action. Once again, every youth player and coach should watch these to get an idea on the intensity, exercises, and communication used at the highest level.

VYSA SHOW SPECIAL: Save 25% off all published rates if contracted and paid in full by 5 PM, Saturday, January 24th. We'll be at the VYSA in Show Crystal City (Arlington) at the Hyatt Regency, booth 43.

Donovan Scores Two More: Is this a broken record? Four goals in five exhibition games for Bayern Munich for the U.S. international has soccer chat boards and blogs all over the United State buzzing. Yes, they're non-league games, but Bayern is playing all their top players, and Donovan is outperforming most and getting plenty of playing time. One other note, his first of two goals in this match is a PERFECT example of heading to the far post, as discussed in today's PSW Coaching Library edition.
