---- Boasts ----

Carlos Garcia of the Baltimore Blast has been named NISL Player of the Week. Garcia scored two goals and recorded one assist to lead the Blast to a 26-4 win over the Massachusetts Twisters.

Steve Goff reports that Wake Forest senior midfielder Michael Lahoud (Annandale, Va.), who was approached by a German-based representative after the College Cup, has signed with MLS and will be available in the Jan. 15 draft.

Remi Gibba, a midfielder for St. John's High School and for the McLean Freedom, was named the Player of the Year when the Washington Post announced their All-Met honors for girl's high school soccer. Caroline Miller, a forward for Walter Johnson High School and for the McLean Freedom, was named to the All-Met First Team.

---- Notes ----

The Washington Freedom will hold an open tryout at the synthetic fields at the Maryland SoccerPlex on February 21-22, 2009.

The Richmond Kickers report that VCU grad and former member of the Richmond Kickers Future (PDL) Matthew "Deli" Delicate will return to Richmond for 2009. The forward spent the last three seasons with the Rochester Rhinos (USL-1) and a brief stint with Ebbsfleet United of the English Blue Square Premier League.

Mike Burke, the 2008 Player's Choice MVP and Supporter's Choice MVP, will return for his 10th season with the Kickers. Burke joined the Kickers in 2000 after splitting time with DC United and the Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer.

The Richmond Kickers will hold their annual player combine for eligible college seniors, qualified free agents and amateurs seeking a pro contract Feb. 14-15. Application deadline is February 9.

The Commonwealth Soccer League will be participating in a special indoor exhibition game with the FC Fredericksburg Generals, the defending Premier Arena Soccer League Mid-Atlantic Division Champions on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 8:00 p.m. at Fredericksburg Field House.

FA Cup Fourth Round Draw: The English FA Cup fourth round draw was held Sunday after a majority of the third round was played on Saturday. Several games were postponed however, and a few were draws that require a replay. Biggest shock so far? Nottingham Forest knocking out Manchester City. Chelsea drawing 1-1 with Southend United could also be considered a shock.

Klinsmann Says Donovan Will Play Key Role: Bayern Munich coach Jurgen Klinsmann insists that USA international Landon Donovan has not joined the Bundesliga club simply to make up the numbers. Donovan has signed for Bayern on loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy until mid-March, and Klinsmann is convinced he will have a big part to play in his side's assault on three trophies this season.

Train Like Corinthians: Surprised I hadn't yet seen Keith Tabatznik's KTS Soccerworld web site, but after recently exchanging some emails with the former Georgetown coach of 22 years on another subject, I clicked on the web site in his email signature line and uncovered this gem.

Freddy Adu Starts Against Juventus: Local product Freddy Adu finally earned a start for his French League club AS Monaco today. He played 68 minutes and drew a first half penalty kick in friendly against the famous Italian side Juventus. The regular match ended 1:1, with Monaco going on to the the symbolic victory with a 5:4 PK advantage.
