George Mason junior midfielder Richard Edgar is one of six recipients of the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award for the fall sports season, with a 3.96 GPA while majoring in psychology.
The Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team earned the Northeast Conference (NEC) Team Sportsmanship Award, announced by the NEC on Wednesday.
Loyola men's soccer players Tennant McVea and Milos Kocic were named NSCAA All-Americans on Monday, becoming the first Loyola players in 14 seasons to garner the prestigious honor. McVea was named to the first team, while Kocic earned second-team recognition.
Rob Vartughian, Assistant Coach for Men's Soccer at the University of Maryland, has been named as one of the NSCAA/adidas Regional Assistant Coaches of the Year.
Players from our area - Raul Diaz (Montgomery College/Clarksburg, Md.), Max Smidinger (Anne Arundel CC/Crofton, Md.) and Terry Akpua (Prince Georges CC/Bowie, Md.) - have been named to 2008 NSCAA/adidas Men's Junior College Division III All-America Teams.
Brian Ownby, Deep Run grad, former Richmond Striker and now a freshman at University of Virginia, has been named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as a 2008 High School All-American.
Former Richmond Strikers Lindsay Wicher, Molly McKeon, and Mary Meredith have been named State and Regional NSCAA All-Americans.
Virginia Rush players Kristin Carden, Jordan Cyrus, Adam Klink, and Kate Heckard have been named as 2008 NSCAA High School All Americans.
