Recipe For Improving College Soccer: L.E. Eisenmenger of SoccerLens.com filed this exhaustive story outlining the many problems college soccer has when it comes to developing players for potential careers in the pros. But it's not an article full of complaints; he interviewed some of the top soccer minds in college and proposes three major changes the NCAA should adopt that could change everything.
Local U-17 National Team Star Profiled: Matthew Stanmyre in a special to The Washington Post profiled the hectic schedule for Julia Roberts - the local soccer player - while she juggled club, high school, and national team soccer.
FIFA Club World Cup Final: Manchester United downed Gamba Osaca in a 5-3 thriller to book passage to the final on Sunday, where they will face Copa Libertadores winners Liga de Quito of Argentina. Liga ousted Pachuca of Mexico, who have the only American International in the competition - Francisco Torres.
Champions League Draw Results: The draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League was held earlier today, and it isn't pretty for the four teams from England in particular. The good news, two teams with American stars in Villarreal and Bayern Munich got a little easier route - though there is no such thing as "easy" in the Champions League. The Match-ups: Chelsea v Juventus, Villarreal v Panathinaikos, Sporting v Bayern Munich, A. Madrid v Porto, Lyonnais v Barca, R. Madrid v Liverpool, Arsenal v Roma, Internazionale, v Man U.
OMG!What a quote: Responding to renewed media reports in Europe that Real Madrid was about to land Cristiano Ronaldo in the winter transfer window, Sir Alex Ferguson responded with this gem: "I wouldn't sell them a virus. There's no agreement whatsoever". Nice. |
