United Academy; Germantown, Md.) are with the U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team en route to Paris, France for an eight-day foreign training camp to prepare as they attempt to qualify for their 14th consecutive FIFA Under-17 World Cup in April or May in Mexico.

The Quakers are currently ranked #9 in the region 4 rankings on NSCAA.com, #3 in the Washington Post and #2 in DC on ESPNRise.com.

---- Notes ----

According to Steven Goff, soccer writer for the Washington Post, D.C. United will retain Tom Soehn as head coach, despite the club's failure to qualify for the MLS playoffs for the first time in six years and its repeated shortcomings in international competition.

D.C. United's Academy teams will be in action over the next several weekends in preparation for its upcoming US Soccer Development Academy season. The Black-and-Red will play several pre-season friendlies against local opposition, including D.C. United Academy Affiliate Clubs Freestate and D.C. Stoddert, as well as Real Maryland FC.

Reading FC's American midfielder Bobby Convey has not played for the Royals since a September 23rd League Cup match with Stoke City, but the team says that he is still part of their plans.

D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno underwent successful knee surgery Tuesday. Team physician Dr. Chris Annunziata performed arthroscopic surgery at Virginia Hospital Center to clean the articular cartilage and remove a meniscal defect.  Moreno will be ready for full participation in time for pre-season next year.

Richmond Kickers Indoor of the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) is teaming up with the Fredericksburg Generals to compete in the first annual Thanksgiving Shootout on November 30. The event will kick off Richmond Kickers Indoor's inaugural PASL campaign, with the regular season starting one week later.

United Soccer Leagues announced that a special exhibition series featuring three teams from the United States Power Soccer Association's competitive Division 1 will be held Sunday, November 23 at the USL SoccerFest in north Tampa. Power Soccer is the fastest growing sport for power wheelchair users.

The 2009 National Cup VIII Finals and National Collegiate Showcase will return to Virginia Beach, Va. in July. The boys' and girls' events will be held on different dates to better accommodate the large number of participating teams.

FC Richmond recently held a club-wide food drive in coordination with all FC Richmond Recreation, PDP, and Magic/Mystx games. They donated 500 pounds of food to Central Virginia FoodBank.

Check out the PSW High School Highlights here. There were too many to list here individually.

The 2008 Best of U.S. Soccer Awards, presented by Soccer America, have kicked off with a nomination period for five of the awards that will be handed out in mid-December. Now in its seventh year, the annual series provides fans the opportunity to submit their nominees for the five categories until Friday, Nov. 14 on ussoccer.com.

Chicago Advances in MLS: With the help of some local players and a head coach from out backyard, the Chicago Fire finally knocked someone other than D.C. United out of the MLS playoffs last night. This time, it was the New England Revolution, and it wasn't even close (3-0). Chicago now advances to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they await the winner of Columbus vs. Kansas City. This is the first time in seven years New England has NOT advanced to the Conference Finals.

Is Soccer the Barack Obama of Sports?: ESPN The Magazine's Austin Kelley thinks the same "new" American mentality that swept Barack Obama is just the sort of thirst for change that soccer represents in the USA.

Beckham Has Option To Terminate MLS Contract: Sports Illustrated's soccer guru Grant Wahl has learned that David Beckham's supposedly 5-year MLS contract has a loophole - the player has an option to terminate the agreement after the 2009 season, or basically just two and half seasons in MLS!
