The other semifinal game is between the Bethesda Freedom 95 and the SAC United Premier, both WAGS Division 1.

The VYSA has announced the individuals who will receive awards for their exemplary service to VYSA and its members at the VYSA Awards Luncheon Saturday, January 24, 2009.

On Oct. 20, Paul VI hosted its annual Under the Lights Special Olympics Soccer Tournament. The second-round game was a 9-0 blowout by the Panthers against the Fairfax Blue sending the Panthers to the Special Olympics Fall Championships this weekend in Virginia Beach.

---- Notes ----

Major League Soccer unveiled its new championship trophy this week, the third design in league history. The new trophy better resembles a traditional "cup", and is named the "Philip F. Anschutz Trophy", after the billionaire investor who almost single-handidly supported MLS in it's first years of existence, and still plays a major role.

The Screaming Eagles are going to the MLS Cup this year, as always. The match is on Sunday, November 23rd at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, and they'll be in sunny LA for a long weekend of sun and fun. Find out how to join up for a good time and great soccer action.

Maryland ODP online registration is open until Friday, November 28. After November 28, all players will have to register for ODP tryouts on-site.

The Quarterfinal Round of the MPSSAA region tournaments for soccer is complete and results have been posted. The semifinal round of the region tournament will take place today.
Boys results  Girls results

The Virginia High School League has announced a new divisional playoff format. The five division format would be used in all sports in which the vast majority of schools in each division participate. In boys and girls soccer however, where participation is limited, Division 1 & 2 would combine to compete for one of four boys and girls titles.

The Northern Virginia Adult Soccer Association (NVASA) is launching their inaugural session of outdoor, winter soccer. All matches will be on Saturday afternoons and fields will definitely be turf. If your team is interested in participating, please email winter@nvasa.org.

SAM Soccer and the Discovery Sports Center are offering multiple winter programs for all soccer players, youth and adult.

The Southeastern Virginia Women's Soccer Association (SEVWSA) is launching a new Women's Over-30 indoor league this winter. Registration is open through November 7th.

Adult and Youth indoor soccer winter sessions will soon get underway at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Online registration deadline is November 13 for the first sessions starting up November 22nd.

----Editor----

US Women in Richmond Saturday: Just a reminder to head down to Richmond for the US Women's National Team post-Olympic victory tour. The match against South Korea will be at the University of Richmond Stadium, and kicks off at 6 PM.

What's Next for United?: Steven Goff's Soccer Insider has some pretty interesting quotes from DCU executives from Thursday night's awards reception. Also interesting was that no invited guests from the D.C. Government showed, while one from Prince Georges County did.

Case For AND Against Turf For MD High School Championships: Katherine Dunn and Glenn Graham state their cases for and against the use of synthetic turf fields for the upcoming Maryland high school championship games. Pros for turf? Truer surface, no weather delay. And against? Not real soccer and too different from what teams are used to.

Daylight Savings: Don't forget to set your clocks back on Saturday night - otherwise you'll be showing up an hour too early for those early AM games on this last weekend of most regular seasons!
