The Super Y-League U16 Freedom shut out their opponents in five of their 10 matches this season, and their offense posted 32 goals, an average of 3.2 goals per match. They advanced out of the 11-team Mid Atlantic Division with a record of 7-1-2. The North American Finals will be held as one half of USL's SoccerFest from Friday, November 21 to Tuesday, November 25.
On Sunday, October 19, the SOCA premier-level travel teams put together a comprehensively impressive performance against the Roanoke Star by compiling ten wins and two draws out of a slate of 16 matches. The winning performance placed SOCA in the driver's seat for the over-all fall season club championship in VCCL play.
The Beach FC U12 Piranhas Girls competed in the annual WAGS Columbus Day Tournament and ground their way through the preliminary rounds winning all three games by a combined score of 9-0 only to be have their quest for the finals stopped in double overtime on a penalty kick against Carolina Select in the semi-finals.
Three high schools from our Potomac area are on the list of 25 schools ranked in the NSCAA/adidas® National Rankings for Boys, based on the October 21 poll.
McDonogh School (Owings Mills, Md.) is ranked third nationwide in the NSCAA/adidas® National Rankings for Girls, based on the October 21 poll.

The U.S. Under-17 Women's National Team has arrived in New Zealand and is prepared to kick off the 2008 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup taking place from Oct. 28-Nov. 16. Head coach Kazbek Tambi has named the roster that will represent the United States at the historic tournament, which will mark the first-ever world championship for women at the U-17 level.
D.C. United president Kevin Payne was fined $5,000 by Major League Soccer on Friday for inappropriate conduct directed at an official after a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy last month.

The First Round of the MPSSAA region tournaments for boys' soccer are complete and results have been posted, the brackets updated. Teams are now preparing for the Quarterfinal Round scheduled to begin today, Tuesday, October 28th.

Nigeria Out As U17 World Cup Host: Nigeria has told FIFA they are not prepared to host of the 2009 U-17 World World Cup as planned, which is scheduled to begin October 24, 2009. FIFA will now look for an alternate host, for which the US is likely on a short list with our experience in staging the 2003 Women's World Cup on short notice after the SARS epidemic in China required a venue change.
