---- Boasts ----

Three from our region are among the 21 players vying for a place on the final World Cup roster at the U.S. Under-20 WNT camp in Sunrise, Fla. from Sept. 21-28: GK Chantel Jones (Virginia) and Midfielders Christine Nairn (Maryland) and Ingrid Wells (Georgetown).

Senior Andrew Dyskstra (Woodbridge, Va.) earned Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week honors for outstanding play in goal when he tallied eight saves en route to leading the Virginia Commonwealth University men's team to a thrilling 3-1 victory over the University of Virginia on Saturday night.

For the third-straight time, the city rivalry between Richmond and VCU men's soccer was decided by one goal, but this time it was the Rams who snapped a two-game losing streak with a 1-0 win Wednesday at First Market Stadium.

An early own goal in the first half of play was the difference the Spiders needed as they went on to defeat the American Eagles 1-0 Tuesday night at First Market Stadium. With the win, the Richmond women improve to 5-1-1 on the year, their best mark since 1999.

The George Mason women's team put on an offensive show Tuesday night at George Mason Stadium as the Patriots scored nine goals for the first time in more than 13 years and had its largest margin of victory since a 14-goal win in 1995, as the Patriots beat Howard, 9-1.

---- Notes ----

Following the WPS allocation of Ali Krieger, Abby Wambach and Cat Whitehill to the Washington Freedom, USLSoccer.com is featuring the top Freedom side in a review of the U16 talent competing in the upcoming Super Y-League North American Finals.

The American University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against non-conference opponent James Madison on Wednesday at Reeves Field. Both teams have .500 records on the season with the Eagles 3-3-1 and the Dukes 2-2-1.

The Navy men's soccer team struggled offensively and dropped a 1-0 decision to a strong George Washington team on Tuesday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The loss ended Navy's modest three-game winning streak and dropped the Mids to 3-2-1 overall.

Maryland men's soccer head coach Sasho Cirovski will look for career win No. 218 and the Terps will aim to go 2-0 in ACC play when they play host to Duke Friday night at 8 p.m. Duke upended Maryland in double overtime last season, 2-1, in Durham N.C.

The No. 22/NR Georgetown University men's team has a tough weekend ahead of them with a pair of Big East opponents traveling to North Kehoe Field; they meet South Florida on Friday and DePaul on Sunday. The Hoyas are 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference, suffering their first loss of the season last Saturday at Providence.

The Richmond women's squad will continue its home play with a match-up against the Penn University Quakers Friday night at 7 p.m. Penn is the defending Ivy League Champion.

The Georgetown University women's team will open Big East play this weekend when they travel to Villanova, Pa. on Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. contest against the 19th-ranked and undefeated Wildcats. The Hoyas are currently ranked among the Top-25 in every major team statistical category and four Hoyas are ranked among the top-50 individually.

The Maryland Terrapin women's team finishes the non-conference portion of its schedule this weekend, as the Terps host Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at 1 p.m. Maryland has not allowed a goal to the Mount in their two previous meetings.

The schedule for Virginia State Cup play on September 20 is posted.

McLean Youth Soccer, in conjunction with the Fairfax County Park Authority, has announced the completion of two state-of-the-art, all-weather turf fields at Spring Hill Park in McLean, Va. MYS and the FCPA will co-host the opening ceremony on Saturday, September 27th at 9:00 am.
