---- Boasts ----

Nikki Pond, Richmond Strikers U15 Girls Elite GK, has been selected to go to the ODP Inter-Regionals in November. Only 18 girls from Region One were invited.

GK Dana Daniels, DC Stoddert U14 Edge, has been selected for the Olympic Development Program's Region I player pool.

The Beach U11 Red boys fought their way into the Championship Game at the PWSI Toys for Tots Labor Day Tournament in Northern Virginia and were awarded Finalists.

---- Notes ----

Results, News, and Notes on the previous week's local college action can be found in the weekly PSW College Round Up.

The U.S. WNT travels to face Ireland again at Giants Stadium tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

D.C. United has signed four new players in the past week. Forward Thabiso 'Boyzzz' Khumalo and defender Greg Janicki come on loan from the Pittsburg Riverhounds. Ibrahim Koroma has been signed from Sierra Leone, where the 19 year old has been playing professionally, as well as manning central defense for their full national team. And just yesterday, defender/midfielder Ryan Miller was claimed off waivers from Columbus.

To make room for the new D.C. United players mentioned above, midfielders Domenic Mediate and Jeff Carroll have been placed on the season-ending injury list and Dane Murphy has been waived.

American transfer fee record holder Jozy Altidore debuted in La Liga for Villarreal this past weekend in their 1-0 defeat of La Coruna.

The U.S. Under-17 MNT will play nine exhibition games against U.S. Soccer Development Academy clubs, including the Richmond Kickers, on October 11.

Results from September action to date in the second year of US Soccer Development Academy are posted.

Nominations by coaches for deserving high school and college teams for the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Team Academic Award are due by October 1, 2008.

Results from the first weekend of Virginia State Cup play, September 13, are posted.

Results are available for the Fredericksburg Cup 2008, August 23-24, 2008.

D.C. United fans will again help out on International Coastal Cleanup Day, putting efforts into cleaning up the riverbank in the area of Anacostia Park on Saturday, Sept. 20, 9am - noon. All ages are welcome to participate.

---- Editor ----

More Warner v Keane: Just following up Friday's Editor's Corner entry highlighting the war of words between Sunderland Manager Roy Keane and CONCACAF/FIFA official Jack Warner. Warner has fired back at Keane by making fun of him for walking out on Ireland during the 2002 World Cup - ouch.

The New Freddy (hopefully without the unrealistic expectations): If you watched the U17 men's Nike Friendlies last December, you noticed the 14-year old Charles Renken lighting up the pitch. He's trained with several HUGE European clubs, and has been repeatedly compared to Freddy Adu. Check out his background story in this ESPN article.
