Former Maryland Terrapins were all over US soccer news this past
weekend. Jason Garey scored two goals for the first place Columbus Crew
in their 4-0 thrashing of New England. Steven King scored the game
winner for Chicago over New York, and Maurice Edu started and played 90
minutes for the U.S. national team in their World Cup qualifying win

George
Washington freshman Yoni Berhanu (Sidwell Friends School) was named

The
Virginia men topped Hofstra, 4-2, Sunday night at Klöckner Stadium.
Chris Agorsor made the score 4-1 in the 77th minute, when he headed
home a Neil Barlow corner kick. This was Agorsor's team-leading third
goal of the season.
The
Maryland men won both of their games this weekend, taking down Coach
Sasho Cirovski's former team, Hartford, 3-0, then erupting with goals
against Davidson 4-1 on Sunday night. The wins place Coach Cirovski one
victory away from tying Doyle Royal as the all-time leader in wins in
Maryland coaching history.
For the second consecutive week, UMBC freshman midfielder Andrew Bulls (Millersville, Md./McDonogh) was named America East Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week. W. Cox) registered a 2-0 shut out in her first career start for Tech
against George Washington on Sunday afternoon.
Karen

the most by a Lady Flame goalkeeper since Shannon Hutchinson recorded
25 stops in a 3-0 defeat at East Carolina on Sept. 11, 1996.
Freshman Victoria Johnson (Norfolk, VA/Granby HS) nailed her first career game-winner, logging 2 goals and 2 assists to help ODU to its third shutout victory of the season against Elon 6-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Chesapeake United SC U-18
Galaxy recorded wins in all four of their matches in the Greensboro
Labor Day Tournament, including a stunning 4 - 1 victory over the
Virginia Cup winners, Chantilly.
The Chesapeake United SC Fusion U12 Boys captured the Williamsburg Cup Championship in their division over the Labor Day weekend.
Congratulations to Chesapeake United SC U10 FREEDOM for placing first in their division at the 2008 Williamsburg Cup over the Labor Day weekend.

W-League Combine May Lead to International Options for Players: In a creative effort to raise their standard of play, the Football Association of Ireland sent Noel King, the country's Senior Women's Coach, to the inaugural United Soccer Leagues (USL) W-League Combine to "shake a few trees" and perhaps land one of several talented Irish-American players to boost his sides' chances in UEFA Women's EURO Qualifying. The prospect for female players in the US that may eligible to play for national teams outside the US program added yet another opportunity to the growing list of options for top female players.
Agorsor Off To A Flying Start: Maria Burns Ortiz of ESPN caught up with Chris Agorsor, who is off to a flying start to his college career at Virginia, leading the team in goals, and happy he chose college over going pro. You'll remember our two-part (part 1, part 2) profile of the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year from McDonogh from this summer.
One on One with Tony DiCicco: With the WPS player allocations right
around the corner and the recent conclusion of the first USL W-League
combine in Florida, women's soccer in the USA is about to take front
and center for the first time since the launch of the WUSA many years
ago. Oh yeah, don't forget the Gold Medal the US Women's team just won,
and their upcoming victory tour
http://www.potomacsoccerwire.com/news/458/3704. What better time to sit
down and get Tony DiCicco's opinion. |
