---- Boasts ----

Kele Golebiowski (Washington Freedom) and Kelly Hammond (Northern Virginia Majestics) have been provisionally chosen to participate in the inaugural USL W-League Combine for Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) on September 4-7 in Tampa, FL.

Real Maryland ended its season on a positive note Saturday, drawing 1-1 with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and spoiling Pittsburgh's bid at a USL-2 playoff spot.

Northern Virginia FC, comprised of both the Northern Virginia Royals (male) and Northern Virginia Majestics (female) USL teams, is sending a club record of six teams to the 2008 Super 20 and Super Y-League North American Finals in Tampa, FL. November 21 - 25.

The Real Maryland Super 20s ousted the visiting U-20 Trinidad and Tobago National Team 3-1 Saturday night at Halloween Park in Calverton, Maryland.

Three women from teams in our area have been named to the Women's Super-20 North American Finals All-Tournament Team: Jordan Grant and Tiffany Brown of the Washington Freedom and Kathleen Winsper of Hampton Roads.

Olivia Moore, Powhatan High grad and 2008 District Player of the Year, is the recipient of a $15,000 scholarship from VMI. She will play for the Keydets and has already started attending classes at the Lexington, Va. military school.

---- Notes ----

Reminder: D.C. United face New England tonight at RFK in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals. Tickets are on sale at the stadium and kick off is at 7:30 PM. Fans can also listen to an English or Spanish language radio broadcast at DCUnited.com.

D.C. United has waived Reston FC and UVA product, Jeremy Barlow. The midfielder originally signed a developmental contract on March 20 after the club acquired his rights from the Houston Dynamo.

US National Arena Soccer Team Head Coach Bernie Lilavois will conduct a joint national combine for the US National Team, the Colorado Lightning and Denver Dynamite PASL-Pro teams on September 6-7 in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The USASA 2008 Coed Cup is set to kick off on October 24-26 in Dallas, Texas after a two-year hiatus. There will be an Open, Over 30 and Over 40 event.

The application deadline for Fall 2008 VYSA State Cup Applications is August 15, 2008 at 4:00PM.

In a move to expose players to international competition, the Calvert Soccer Association (CSA) Select youth soccer club is hosting the Trinidad and Tobago Southern National Football 19-U men's team until mid-August. The visiting team is playing a number of exhibition matches and participating in local soccer camps.

---- Editor ----

Galaxy Clean House: Alexi Lalas and Ruud Gullit are out in LA. Galaxy team owners AEG announced Monday that Lalas had been released now rather than waiting for his contract to not be renewed at the end of the season. Gullit on the other hand, claims to have resigned due to personal reasons. And you thought you wanted to be David Beckham!

Golme goals through PSW: I won't take up too much space here, as I've outlined most of my feelings on this great new portable goal on my blog. But I definitely wanted to make sure you noticed our announcment that HummerSport (publisher of Potomac Soccer Wire) has partnerned with Golme. The partnership is desiged to help deliver what we feel is a game-changing soccer product direct to grassroots (that's you) without all the marketing hype and expense in between.  I hope you'll check out Golme's revolutionary portable goal system, and if you decide to buy, that you do it direct through this unique partnership. As a subscriber to PSW, you'll get the best price out there, plus free shipping, and will help support PSW in the process.
