Four D.C. United Academy players were honored this past week when the U.S. Soccer Development Academy announced the Conference Starting XI.
Richmond Strikers' Nicki Pond (U15 Girls Elite) has been selected to the US Soccer Region 1 player pool as a goal keeper and is attending the US Soccer National Training Camp in California.
College Soccer News examined the 2008 incoming recruiting classes throughout the country to arrive at its top 20 rankings which include Maryland and Virginia.
Deirdre McCabe, a graduate of Indian River High School, has received a $500 scholarship from her soccer club, Chesapeake United. She plans to attend Old Dominion University.
Timothy Songer, graduate of Windsor High School, has received a $500 scholarship from his soccer club, Chesapeake United, and plans to attend Randolph College.
The Old Dominion FC U-10 Revolution was one of the recipients of the WAGS 2008 Sportsmanship Award and will be recognized on DC United's WAGS Sportsmanship Night October 4 at RFK.

The U.S. Men's Olympic Team earned a scoreless draw with Ivory Coast in the opening match of the ING Cup in Hong Kong on Wednesday. The United States will face Cameroon in their second match of the tournament and their final Olympic tune-up on Aug. 2 at 5 p.m. local (5 a.m. EST) at Hong Kong Stadium.
The U.S. Women's team was among the first American Olympians to arrive in China and will have about two weeks of acclimation before its opening match against Norway on Aug. 6 in Qinhuangdao.
D.C. United has promoted midfielder Craig Thompson to a senior developmental contract while defender Mike Zaher has moved to a developmental contract.
D.C. United has partnered with HiBall Events to create the DC Jam Sessions 2008. Three music festivals will take place before D.C. United games at the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds in Parking Lot 8A and will feature live music on multiple stages from at least five bands and DJs at each Jam Session.
Chicago Fire standout Cuauhtémoc Blanco will not be allowed to play in the U.S. Open Cup for at least two years because of his actions during a match against D.C. United this month, the U.S. Soccer Federation ruled yesterday. The Mexican legend was also fined $7,500 by MLS, but did not receive any game suspensions.
Matt Leiva, former boys soccer coach at Woodson High School, has been hired to fill the same position at Paul VI High School in Fairfax.
This Monday, August 4th is the last day to apply for the FPYC Patriot Cup to be held August 30th and 31st.
Tomorrow (Saturday, August 2nd) is the last day to apply for the PWSI Toys For Tots Tournament to be held August 30th and 31st.
