The recently injured Women's National team star and former Washington Freedom player Abby Wambach held press conference yesterday to discuss her injury, missing the Olympics, and to support her teammates. Check out her quote sheet on USSoccer.com

Real Maryland head coach Silvino Gonzalo has been released following the team's 8-nil defeat at the hands of the Charlotte Eagles. The team has failed to win a league game since May 24th, losing nine of their last 10 USL-2 fixtures, scoring only four goals and conceding 30.

The F.C. Fredericksburg Gunners announced Monday a renewed commitment to excellence by reorganizing the structure of the front office and its staff.  The change has been brought about by the club's successful growth during its first two years in the United Soccer League (USL).

D.C. United has announced that Marcelo Gallardo and Gonzalo Peralta have undergone surgeries in Munich, Germany to repair sports hernias. The recovery time for both players will take two to three weeks.

On the heels of their victory against the Magic on Saturday night, the Northern Virginia Majestics fell, 2-0, to Jersey Sky Blue on Sunday evening. The loss puts the Majestics (3-6-5) in a sixth place finish in the Northeast Division, failing to make the playoffs for the first time in three years.

The PDL Piranhas played nip and tuck for a 2-2 draw with the Virginia Legacy on Friday night, finishing the season at third place in the Mid-Atlantic standings.

Real Maryland suffered an 8-0 pounding by the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday night on the road. They'll have to put it all behind them to focus on their last home game of the season when they meet up with the Bermuda Hogges on Wednesday night, July 23.

The U15 Rovers have transferred from the Ashburn Soccer Club to Great Falls Soccer Club.

Applications for Virginia State Cup play for the Fall of 2008 are now available on the VYSA web site.

Baltimore's Home Blasted?: According to the Baltimore Business Journal, 1st Mariner Arena will be blasted to make room for new development in downtown Baltimore. The primary tenant of the building - the Baltimore Blast pro indoor team and reigning league champs will be left without a home as a result - at least without a home capable of supporting the number of fans they usually draw. The team president still says there's no doubt the team will play this winter though, so fear not. Check out the story in the Examiner.

Should Have Known Better: Not only was West Ham United a poor choice as an MLS All-star opponent this year, but it appears they've brought their famous hooligans along for the ride. At halftime if their scrimmage Sunday against the Columbus Crew, about a dozen Hammers fans marched in to the seating section of Columbus Supporters, and it wasn't long before fists were flying. How stadium security allowed a team with a history of violent fans to enter an opposing team's supporters section is baffling, and if the same thing happens at the All Star game in Toronto Thursday, it could set the league back a decade in attendance figures. With recent incidents in the stands at RFK and Giants Stadium, and this latest incident, it's clear fans' passion is building. This should be a good thing, but let's hope the stadium security providers are better prepared. Most MLS teams are one bad stadium incident away from losing half their attendance thanks to their extreme reliance on turning out youth teams and families on a game-by-game ticket sales basis. These groups will not show if there is any hint of a safety risk, so the teams better be ready for the next incident.

Chris Agorsor, Part II: PSW Sr. Staff Writer Charles Boehm is working on his follow-up to last Friday's profile of Chris Agorsor. This edition covers his US National situation among other things, and includes a coveration Charles had with Thomas Rongen on the teen star who just lead his Baltimore Bays to the first ever US Soccer Player Delevelopment Academy Championship. The story will be live on PotomacSoccerWire.com later today, and will be featured in Friday's wire.
