> Dulles National Soccer Tournament 2008
Looking for a great pre-FALL-season warm-up tournament?  For 17 years the Dulles National Soccer Tournament (DNST) presented by DC United and hosted by Herndon Youth Soccer (HYS) has been just that tournament.  This year we again anticipate approximately 300 teams from the Mid-Atlantic Region to participate.  The tournament will be held August 23rd & 24th prior to the labor day weekend.  As an added bonus, we have continued our involvement as the founding tournament in the DC United Soccer Tournament Series.  As in recent years, athletes receive free tickets to a DC United match and there were will also be many other activities at the venues such as activities like the DC United pre-game experience, player appearances and a player training clinic held on Sunday of the tournament.  For more information, details, times, and locations check our website at www.herndonyouthsoccer.org/dullestournament. The DNST presented by DC United is an HYS sponsored event and is Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) sanctioned.

---- Boasts ----

Five members of the Richmond Strikers Girls Elite program have been selected to attend the ODP Region I Camp at the University of Rhode Island this month.

Two teams from our area were among the nine champions from Region E going on to the US Club Soccer National Cup Finals later this month; Nova FC (VA) in the BU15 Premier division and Great Falls (VA) in the BU17 Super Group.

The PDL Piranhas topped Richmond Kickers Future 2-0 to take the 2008 James River Cup last Thursday, July 3rd.

Richmond Kickers Future disarmed the Fredericksburg Gunners in the last three minutes with a goal from eight yards out for a 1-0 finish just ahead of a torrential downpour on Saturday.

The Hampton Roads Piranhas brought down the Ocean City Barons 2-1 on Sunday night.

---- Notes ----

The Richmond Kickers have teamed up with Sports Outreach Institute, Inc. to host the third annual Gifts For Gulu Night during their next home game at the University of Richmond stadium on Saturday, July 12th. Proceeds benefit the children of Northern Uganda.

Craig Appleby has been named Johns Hopkins Men's Soccer Coach. Appleby comes to the Blue Jays after six years as the head coach at Emory & Henry College (VA).

The Real Maryland Super 20s tied local rivals Potomac 2-2 on Saturday at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

The W-League Hampton Roads Piranhas rallied to post a 1-1 draw on Sunday against the division's third-place Tampa Bay Hellenic in soaring Florida temperatures after a lengthy delay for an afternoon thunderstorm.

2008 Kohl's American Cup / SoccerQuest 4 v 4 Festival application deadline is June 20.

---- Editor ----

Million Dollar Free Kick: On Saturday night in Houston, Mexico's Rafa Marquez was surprisingly crowned the Free Kick Masters 2008 champion and winner of the $1 million prize. Did you even know this competition was happening? A MILLION dollars for a free kick? With that much money and names like Ronaldinho, Messi, James, Marquez, and Borgetti, such an event has potential - but perhaps only if Simon Fuller's 19 production company (producers of American Idol and David Beckham's Agent) takes over the event in future years.
