D.C. United defeated the Rochester Rhinos 2-0 in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup last night at the Maryland Soccerplex. With the win, D.C. gains the right to host the quarterfinal match-up with the Chicago Fire at the Soccerplex on Tuesday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

> U.S. Women down Norway 4-0 in Olympic tune-up
Abby Wambach pulled to within on goal of reaching 100 career strikes for the U.S. Women's National Team as she scored the final goal in the team's 4-0 win over Norway in a pre-Olympic tune up match Wednesday. The win is the first ever for the U.S. in Norway against the host country. The two teams will meet in the opening match of the Olympics on August 6 in China.

> Kickers ousted from Open Cup by three goal Revolution
After nearly a two-hour lightning delay at Veterans Stadium, the Richmond Kickers 2008 US Open Cup run came to an end, courtesy of a 3-0 loss to the New England Revolution. The Kickers held the defending Champions to a scoreless first half before surrendering three goals to Sam Brill, Joe Germanese and Taylor Twellman to finish the match.

In U18 boy action, McLean MPS FC won 3-2 over Montgomery United of Eastern PA, while U14 girls Chantilly Burn dropped a 2-1 decision to Stars of Massachusetts. The Richmond Kickers Destiny have announced three players have been called up to participate in the 2008 Nordic Cup, set to take place July 15-21 in Sweden. American defender Nikki Krzysik, English defender Kylie Davies and English forward Dunia Susi will represent their respective countries next week.

US Club Soccer has announced the winners of this past weekend's regional events in Pittsgrove, NJ Two boys' teams from our region were on the regional champions list, winning the U13 and U14 divisions.
D.C. United is at the top of Keith Costigan's MLS Power Rankings for the 2nd week in a row. Part of his reasoning? "Emilio can't stop scoring and, with Ben Olsen now back from injury, D.C. will just continue to get better and better. The rest of the league, you have been warned."

D.C. United's nationally televised match against the LA Galaxy on ABC this past Sunday earned a 0.9 rating, which means the match appeared in at least 1 Million households, and viewed by at least 1.2 Million in the United States alone.
The girls' East soccer squad won 1-0 (4-3 on PKs) on Wednesday night against the West to clinch the Virginia High School Coaches Association's All-Star game.
The East boys soccer squad shut out the West 3-0 on Wednesday night to win the Virginia High School Coaches Association's All-Star game at Christopher Newport University.
With D.C. United's win in the US Open Cup round of 16 last Tuesday, they will return to the cozy Maryland SoccerPlex again this Tuesday for the quarterfinals. This time however, the match is against the star-powered Chicago Fire, and match organizers are expecting a rapid sell out of the 3,200 seat stadium. Your best bet is to order in advance with this form.
Real Maryland (3-8-0) meet the Richmond Kickers (6-4-2) on Independence Day at 4PM at the Maryland SoccerPlex and, on Sunday, take on the Harrisburg City Islanders, USL-2 defending champions.
