Bradley Discusses Youth Development Vision: As mentioned in our news section regarding the US Qualifier at RFK this Fall, US Men's Head Coach Bob Bradley sat down at the Washington Post recently for a long chat. Steven Goff has published most of his quotes/comments in full on his Soccer Insider blog. The entry linked here includes lengthy answers to Bradley's take on what is right and wrong with youth player development in the US. Is coach doing a good job?: If your player is having fun and falling in love with the game of soccer all on their own, then the answer is "YES". US Youth Soccer's Sam Snow published this summary of how to measure young team success (hint: it ain't the win-loss record). It's a theme you'll read over and over again in most good coaching discussions, yet the world of "most coaching discussions" is simply not something most first-time-soccer-parents are exposed to early enough, and so our youth soccer world seems a little like the movie Groundhog Day, destined to repeat itself as U9 travel teams are created year after year by well-meaning parents with little coaching education, but a lot of organizational skills. For those of you out there involved with youth teams U5 to U15, PLEASE ready this summary and request the full document from Coach Snow. It is a "message" that needs to be learned and understood as soon as possible by as many people involved in our sport as possible.
