> U.S. Women's National team confirmed to play at RFK May 10
The U.S. Women's National Team will return to Washington, D.C., for the first time since 2003 to take on Canada on Saturday, May 10, at RFK Stadium as the U.S. continues preparations for the 2008 Olympics. The U.S. and Canada will both represent the CONCACAF region at the 2008 Beijing Games after recently completing successful qualifying campaigns from April 2-12 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The match against Canada is the third in three weekends for the U.S. with matches vs. Australia on April 27 in Cary, N.C., and on May 3 in Birmingham, Ala. This will be the seventh trip for the U.S. Women to RFK Stadium, with the most notable meeting coming on Sept. 21, 2003, as the U.S. opened the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup with a 3-1 victory vs. Sweden.

> Crofton Maryland native puts two past D.C. United in Utah Saturday
D.C. United laid an egg Saturday night on the concrete and turf field at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake, Utah. Coming off their Wednesday Champions Cup victory over Pachuca, this match was the 5th in 15 days for the defending MLS Supporters' Shield winners and, with another home MLS game on tap for Thursday, Head Coach Tom Soehn rested several starters. After putting four goals past Toronto FC in the nation's capital a week ago, United had the same fate handed to them by Crofton Maryland's Kyle Beckerman and his pals in Salt Lake in the 4-0 win. That score was the most goals scored and largest margin of victory ever for the 4th year Rocky Mountain club. D.C. United faces Columbus on Thursday at RFK. Kick off is 8:00 p.m. in a game that will be nationally televised on ESPN2.

The Blast will now host the Milwaukee Wave on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:05 p.m. at 1st Mariner Arena. > U.S. Women's soccer wins CONCACAF Olympic tournament in PKs
The U.S. Women's National Team got a dramatic overtime free-kick goal from Carli Lloyd before Canada tied the game three minutes from the end, sending the final match of the 2008 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament into a penalty kick shootout. The world's number one women's team eventually won the shoot out 6-5 on a spectacular save by US Goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart. The U.S. team, which has been on the road for 25 days, will now go on a much-deserved break before regrouping on April 22 in Cary, N.C., to prepare for several domestic matches in preparation for Beijing.

A Real good opportunity: Frederick News-Post staff writer John Cannon profiles
the new Real Maryland USL-2 club, a local men's league player who walked on and earned a spot, as well as other aspects of the club as it prepares to open its season on April 20th.

Robinson's Cicala Brings Wealth of Experience: Lot's of good stories by the regional papers on soccer as the Virginia high school season is finally in full swing. This one profiles Robinson's Jac Cicala, the new Rams' boys coach who has coached in Northern Region for 38 years at schools like Lake Braddock and George Mason University.

Wisdom from the Net: Paul Frommelt of the Connection Newspapers also posted this story about former Ghanan Olympian Simon Addo, who trains some of the top goaltenders [it's actually "goalkeepers" Paul, but we'll forgive you out of appreciation for writing about our sport] in the Northern Region.

The Moose is loose in Canada! - Sorry, had to to be said :-)
