> D.C. United drop first leg in CCC to Pachuca, play again at RFK Wednesday
D.C. United dropped their opening match of the two-match home and away series against Pachuca of Mexico on Tuesday night in Mexico. Despite a strong start, the altitude of 7,000+ feet, and the brilliance of two late Pachuca substitutes put United in a hole that will be difficult to dig themselves out of next Wednesday at RFK for the 2nd leg of the series. The winner will advance to the CONCACAF Champions Cup Finals against either Houston or Saprissa of Costa Rica. The winner of that game will represent our region of the world in the eight-team Club World Cup in November.

The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team has been drawn into Group A at the eight-team 2008 Peace Queen Cup, to be held in mid-June in Suwon, South Korea. The current world number one team will get their first chance at revenge against the Brazilian team that knocked them out of last year's Women's World Cup - AKA "Hopegate". Exact dates, venues and kickoff times have yet to be confirmed. In addition to the Brazilian rematch, the USA will be facing Italy and Australia in what will be a good tune-up tournament before the Olympics later this summer in China.

> D.C. United open RFK's 2008 MLS season Saturday against Toronto
Fresh off their Mexican adventure in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, D.C. United return to RFK Stadium for their home opener to face Toronto FC - with both teams looking to gain their first points of the new MLS season. Both clubs lost by 2-0 score lines on the road to open the thirteenth MLS season, United falling in Kansas City and Toronto going down in Columbus. United will remain in DC for Wednesday's Champions' Cup 2nd leg against Pachuca of Mexico, where the Black and Red will need to win by at least 2 goals in order have the chance of advancing to the tournament final.

> MLS All-stars will face West Ham United on July 24th
Major League Soccer's annual All-star game moves to Toronto's BMO field this year, and will feature the best MLS players against the English Premier League's West Ham United. The "Hammers" feature U.S. international defender, Jonathan Spector, and enjoy large support world wide thanks to their rich history in the country that invented the modern game. MLS All-star teams have never lost to an international opponent in the annual event, most recently defeating Celtic and Chelsea in the previous two installments.

Gallardo is D.C. United's highest paid player ever
The Washington Post's Steven Goff has published MLS player salaries for the upcoming season, and they reveal just how much D.C. United's first-ever Designated Player will cost the club. To be exact - $1.5 million in base salary, and $374,000 more in guaranteed income. This does not include any endorsements the former Argentinean National Team star may secure. The $1.87 million nearly matches the combined salaries of all other United players, which rounds up to $2.3 million. United traded the well proven Christian Gomez in order to make room for Gallardo rather than offer Gomez the $430,000 he demanded.

The first was to Heritage, and then Tuesday's overtime loss to Loudoun County, despite having the lead three times. The Panthers look to get back on track tonight - weather permitting - at Park View at 7:15.
