> Another English Premier League club taken over by Americans
Another American investor has purchased an English Premier League club in Derby County. Although their status as a Premier League team will be short-lived, the move should provide the financial power needed for the team to make a strong push next year to move right back into the Premier League. Ninety-three percent of the shares in the club have been purchased by General Sports and Entertainment (GSE), with the exact identity of the owners of GSE being kept anonymous for the time being. The purchase brings the number of EPL teams controlled by American investors to four, with Derby joining Manchester United, Liverpool, and Aston Villa in that category.

---- Editor's Corner ----

Iraq Soccer: Check out this story about Iraq's best soccer player being denied a work permit in the UK, despite leading his national team to the Olympic final four and winning the Asian Championships. Why was he denied? The Iraq team hasn't played enough full National Team games over the past two years to reach the required 70th world ranking position as calculated by FIFA. Those rankings are based largely on how many games a team plays just as much as the results in those games. Where is Iraq ranked? Despite not being able to host any home games, due to the war - 71st. Yet an appeal was rejected. Get real.
