U.S. U-17 WNT defeats Argentina's U-20 WNT, 2-0, after having just lost to their U-17's on Dec. 11.
Hagerstown Soccer Club's U16 boys (Revolution-Attack) players had a very successful high school season. Nick Bunting was selected All-Washington County 1st team, All-Area 2nd; Mark Oliver, All-Washington County 1st team, All-Area 2nd; Pat Salvagno, All-Washington County 1st team, All-Area 2nd; Kenny Frederickson, All-Washington County 2nd team; and Tyler Sterling, Zach Morgan, Caleb Serifini received All-County Honorable Mention.
Nine players with ties to our region are participating in the USL Men's Player Showcase in Charleston, SC.
The SOCA U13 Boys Express Travel team won the 2007 13 Boys Premiere Gold Division of the CASL Shootout in Raleigh, NC.
The U15 SOCA Storm reached the finals of the Nike Norcross Tournament in Atlanta, GA.
River Hill's Erica Suter is the Columbia Flier/Howard County Times girls' soccer Player of the Year.
Thirteen girls from various Howard County high schools have been selected to the All-County first team along with River Hill's Erica Suter.
Several members of the successful men's soccer team at Anne Arundel Community College received post-season recognition.
Dickinson women's soccer player Sarah Casey, Severna Park resident and Archbishop Spalding alum, was named to the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship team.
C.J. Sapong, a freshman at JMU and Manassas native, was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Year and named first-team All-CAA.
Becky Sauerbrunn, a member of the Richmond Kickers Destiny, has capped off a successful collegiate career with the University of Virginia Cavaliers, earning ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
UVa freshman Chantel Jones, Midlothian, VA, received the goalkeeper spot on the All-ACC Second Team.
Sarah Hilt, Richmond native and Richmond Kickers Destiny team member, was named to the All Atlantic 10 Conference First Team for her outstanding defensive play with the University of Richmond.
Several 2007 Richmond Kickers Future players, including Price Thomas of Charlottsville, VA, earned All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) accolades for their outstanding performance during the 2007 college season.
Lizzie Weast, a current Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club U14 Girls Elite player, has been selected to the Super Y League U13 Girls All-League Team.
Towson University senior goalkeeper Billy Chiles (Springbrook H.S./Silver Spring, MD) has been named as a second team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Towson University senior midfielder Pat Healey (Bel Air, MD) was chosen to the All-South Atlantic region second team announced Thursday by the NSCAA and has been invited to the 2008 Major League Soccer Combine.
ODU sophomore keeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, Va.) was chosen for All-South Atlantic region third team honors and named First Team All-State by the members of the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID).
VCU senior defender Bridgit Cooley (Clifton, Va.) earned first team All-CAA honors Thursday night at the conference's post-season banquet. Team mate Samara Stephen-Dowd (Vienna, Va.) was chosen for second team honors and Jasmine Riley (Arlington, Va.) for third team. Freshman Laurel Pastor (Springfield, Va.) was selected to the CAA All-Rookie team.
