ODSL has approved a motion to add a pilot program for small-side divisions for High School age Boys U16 to U19 . A committee was formed to draw up procedures and rules for the new division(s).  Preliminary plans call for 6 v 6 play on small-sided fields.  The program is designed to provide opportunities to compensate for dwindling numbers and teams that sit-out during the high school season.  Wayne Gardella, vicepresident@odsl.org, has headed this initiative and will chair the pilot program committee.  Full-size divisions will still be available for teams if enough teams exist.

The Parkside girls soccer team's bid for a state title and a perfect season fell just short Saturday night, as the Rams lost to Eastern Tech 1-0 in the Maryland 2A state semifinals at South River High School.

The Mardela girls soccer team played in its first ever Maryland 1A state semifinal Saturday, against Sparrow Point at Broadneck High School. And while the Warriors played hard all night, they were beaten 2-0 by a relentless ball-hawking Pointers offense that featured 36 shots on goal.

The results for Bethesda Soccer Club Thanksgiving Tournament 2007 Girls have been posted.

The Soccer Association of Montgomery has posted a list of its Fall 2007 Recreation League Champions.

The pairings for the 2007 MPSSAA Boy's Soccer State Finals are set with games to be played at South River High School on November 17.

The pairings for the 2007 MPSSAA Girl's Soccer State Finals are set with games to be played at Broadneck High School on November 15 or 17.

The No. 19 Maryland men's soccer team, not having lost in its last 10 matches, will take on No. 4 Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2007 ACC Championship on Wednesday, November 14 at noon.

Registration deadline for Real Maryland tryouts on November 24 is this Friday, November 16.

River Hill 4-1 Century
Glenelg 6-0 Northern
Urbana 1-0 Northern
Wilde Lake 2-1 Catonsville

C.M. Wright 2-1 Severna Park

Hokies Recruiting: The Hokies are enjoying the best ever national rankings position in men's soccer on the backs of several foreign players who were recruited to play just one season at Tech. Check out the details. What do you think?

D.C. United Roster Analysis: So, there really won't be an off-season for D.C. United - at least not for anyone other than a few players who have safe jobs and no plan to relocate. For everyone else though, the planning and work for 2008 started the day after that tough loss to Chicago. First up is the MLS expansion draft, where each team must expose all but 11 players to the possibility of being chosen by the new San Jose Earthquakes team that will join the league next year. This draft is the day after MLS Cup, and which 11 players each team protects should tell some of the story about what major roster moves are expected in the coming months. The Washington Post's Steven Goff covers D.C. United more closely that any other journalist alive, and has posted his snapshot evaluation of the team's roster. Check out who he thinks is safe, in danger of being waived, or somewhere in between.

New European League?: Celtic manager Gordon Strachan believes the authority of world soccer's two most powerful organisations, FIFA and UEFA, will eventually be ended by rich businessmen. He said Monday, "There will be a new structure, a new body. The powers that be, the businessmen coming into football now, will say 'forget FIFA, forget UEFA, we're so powerful we'll have three (European) leagues with the best 60 clubs." Strachan added, "I think in years to come there will be a European league with 54 or 60 clubs. That's the way everybody will get round it."

Own a team England: We brought this to our readers' attention way back when it first launched, with more than a little doubt to say the least, but it looks like the dream is becoming reality. The news that MyFootballCub has agreed to buy Ebbsfleet United is all over the world football news today. Are you an owner yet?
