The move clears the way for the US Federation to bid for the competition in 2018, although it is widely believed Europe will be the 2018 host, with the US a strong possibility for 2022. > Adu scores yet again as late substitute for Benfica For the third time in a month, Freddy Adu scored in the final four minutes of a match as a late substitute, this time converting from close range to give ten-man Benfica the win over Maritimo. Benfica travel to face Pacos Ferreira Saturday, where Freddy may get his first start - or at least more minutes as a sub. [ full story +]

Don't forget to come out to RFK Thursday night for the 2nd match between D.C. United and Chicago. United MUST win to advance, as Chicago hold a 1:0 aggregate lead so far. Kick off at 7:30, tailgate in Lot 8 MUCH earlier. For you slakers that don't change life plans to watch home playoff games, you might be able to catch the game on ESPN2. But it won't be the same :-)

One lung, one goal: Are you kidding? Severna Park's scoring leader literally plays with only one lung. Check out this great article on the inspirational Sean Bunoski and Severna Park's quest for a State Championship.
Youth development progress: FINALLY! US Soccer has taken serious steps
to not only bring a Latin flavor to our youth player development, they
have opened a new door for US-based Latin players to enter the National
Team system. Our futbol will only get better as a result. Check out the
quote sheet from the US Soccer news conference introducing new U-17 Coach and Academy Director Wilmer Cabrera. Then check out this story supporting my feelings on how good this will be for our game.
MLS Best 11?: Allen Hopkins of Fox Soccer has covered MLS more than any other human this year, and has just put in his picks for the League's regular season Best 11. Ben Olsen and Luciano Emilio are on the list.
Freddy Adu interview: Can you get enough Freddy Adu news? It is so
important to remember that although many have already judged young
Freddy's career so-so, we ain't seen nothing yet. Keep in mind he just
turned 18 and is in his 5th professional season. Most 18 year olds are
just signing college commitment letters and have never had the benefit
of professional coaching, or a professional environment. This kid is
playing and scoring in Europe, including Champions League play. It's
still VERY safe to say that Freddy may just become the greatest player
the US ever produces (with a little help from a million kicks against a
wall back in Ghana). His recent run in the U-20 World Cup, and goal
scoring exploits in Portugal have once again ignited the attention of
the media - only it's European Media this time. The latest is this comprehensive interview
in World Soccer Magazine (excerpted in Nigerian Web site Vanguard).
You'll have to subscribe to World Soccer to get the full deal.
EPL in USA?: So the Dolphins and Giants played a regular season NFL game in London (note: they ruined the Wembly pitch), and now there are calls from some in the English Premier League
to copy the model and play future regular season EPL games in the USA!
Officials, however, say that would harm the integrity of the schedule,
but time will tell. It sounds like a great idea from this side of the
pond, and we've got enough US-based owners of EPL teams to make it
happen.
