> U.S. Women defeat Three Lionesses on way to World Cup semis
The U.S. Women's National Team scored three goals in a 13-minute span early in the second half to defeat England, 3-0, putting on a commanding quarterfinal performance to qualify for the semifinals of the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup. The USA got goals from Abby Wambach in the 48th minute, Shannon Boxx in the 57th and a capper from team captain Kristine Lilly in the 60th.

> United and Fire play to draw thanks to Moreno's luck
Jamie Moreno's errant cross in the 83rd minute was all United needed to tie the red-hot Chicago Fire on Sunday afternoon. After allowing an early goal by Chad Barrett, Moreno's attempt at a far post cross took a slightly different path and dipped under the cross bar as Matt Pickens actually withdrew his hand from the block thinking the ball would go over the goal. The draw maintained United's three point lead over Chivas in the race for the Supporters Shield, and put a speed bump in the Fire's road to the final playoff spot.

---- Editor's Corner ----

If you want a new Stadium for D.C. United, please sign this petition today.

Does the fact that D.C. United sits atop the league mean MLS's "Beckham Rule" is unnecessary? Maybe not, but from a purely competitive standpoint, it certainly seems like it's optional. There are several stories circulating the net on this subject lately thanks to United's top of the league position. Check out Frank Dell'Apa's take.

FIFA.com previews this week's Women's World Cup semi-finals. There are plenty of old scores to settle, with both matches representing chances for revenge for recent defeats. Brazil is looking to pay back the American women who beat them for the Gold Medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics, and it was Germany that ousted Norway from the 2005 UEFA Women's Championships. Don't miss the U.S. Women taking on Brazil at 8:00 AM Thursday on ESPN2.
