> Beasley Nets Two Goals as U.S. Cruises into Quarters
Landon Donovan got plenty of help from DaMarcus Beasley-and from a controversial call that led to a key goal-as the United States breezed into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Americans beat El Salvador 4-0 on Tuesday night, getting their first goal from Beasley and a big lift when Donovan converted a penalty kick in first-half injury time.

> USA Men's Team Jumps 13 Spots in New Ranking
After a disastrous World Cup 2006 in Germany, the United States plummeted to a world ranking of 16th during last July - and to a lowly 31st in November. However, in new FIFA World Rankings released this week, Bob Bradley's men are up to 16th place, a jump of 13 spots, leapfrogging arch-rivals Mexico, who fall from 20th to 26th.

> Ocean City Barons and Richmond Kickers Advance in Open Cup
The First Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup has concluded with three amateur teams recording upsets over professional clubs to advance to the Second Round. The PDL's Ocean City Barons and El Paso Patriots moved on as did the USASA's Milwaukee Bavarians. In the Battle of Champions, the Richmond Kickers topped the Michigan Bucks 4-2.

> US Women Extend Lead at Top of World Rankings
The latest edition of the FIFA Women's World Ranking shows that Olympic champions USA now hold a healthy lead over world champions Germany, the Americans having increased their points tally on the back of comfortable victories over Mexico and Canada. For Germany, however, recent wins in the preliminary competition of the UEFA Women's Championship have failed to atone for a rather disappointing Algarve Cup campaign.
