Congratulations to the VSA Heat Blue U12 Girls team who were victorious in last week's 11v11 State Cup Final match held in Woodbridge against the SYA Power.

---- Notes ----

D.C. United announced a $50,000 donation to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation. Almost two weeks before United hosted the Houston Dynamo, United President and CEO Kevin Payne declared his desire to "lend a helping hand to our neighbors in the Eastern Market," a building that was destroyed in a fire last month, and announced that $3 per ticket sold for the match would be donated to the fund.

Ocean City Barons will meet the USL Second Division's Crystal Palace Baltimore at home in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tonight (Tuesday) at 7:30 p.m. Listen live via radio here.

Thirty-two State Cup champion teams from Maryland and Virginia will compete for the US Youth Soccer Region I title in Maine, June 28-July 3. WIN BECKHAM TICKETS from Potomac Soccer Wire while helping build a local soccer discussion destination. See details here

Local amateur team Aegean Hawks F.C., Spring 2007 Washington Premier League Champions, kick off their 2007 U.S. Open Cup dream tonight in Harrisburg, PA. They are facing the Harrisburg City Islanders in Round 1 of the Cup at 7:30 tonight - about a 2-hour drive from the Metro DC region, straight up Rt 15 North from Leesburg. Go support them if you can.

The great Mexican soccer adventure! Grant Wahl - the Sports Illustrated Soccer Writer spent two weeks on the road in Mexico getting to know the Mexican League a little better through the eyes of local fans in four cities.

ESPN's Andrea Canales believes the US team is still overly reliant on Landon Donovan for its offensive punch. Is it skill, speed, vision, leadership, or all of the above that makes him so important? Canales' article talks about more than LD too.

The Times of London chronicles some of the fervor around MLS-bound David Beckham over the past week. It is really exciting to be a supporter of MLS right now. It was big enough just to sign Beckham in the first place, but with his resurgence in the England team and a the chance of Real Madrid winning the Spanish title on Sunday, the investment AEG has made is looking to pay FAR bigger dividends than Uncle Phil ever imagined.

Ugly Parents? We don't care what they look like, just what they say! Potomac Soccer Wire is planning to run some original accounts of the worst examples of parent behavior at youth soccer games. Send us your worst first-hand accounts at editor@potomacsoccerwire.com.

Other Ideas? We're looking for other original content related to soccer in our region, but don't have the writing staff (or budget) to become our own magazine! Send us your ideas or willingness to intern and we'll be in touch to include you in our planning sessions and maybe bring you on as a Section Editor. editor@potomacsoccerwire.com
