Clint Dempsey's first-half goal gave the United States a 1-0 victory over Guatemala on Thursday in the opening round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The U.S. team has yet to lose this year, but often looked ragged against what should have been an overmatched opponent. Their next match is Saturday against Trinidad and Tobago. The defending champion Americans are seeking a fourth tournament victory in the Gold Cup, the championship of North and Central America and the Caribbean, and their third in the last four events.

The Freestate Bravehearts Boys U14 (born after Aug 1, 1993) are holding open tryouts on June 5, 7 and 12, 5:30-7:00PM on Murtaugh#2 at the Allen Pond field complex in Bowie.  The team is coached by Bill Heiser, a former US Youth National Team member who represented the US in a Youth World Cup, wand also was a captain on the Nationally ranked Loyola College Greyhounds. The team is looking for talented, hard working and dedicated players to help take the team to the highest levels of the NCSL and beyond. The team is particularly interested in filling the goal keeper position, however, all positions will be competed at these tryouts. Chantilly Soccer Club's FC Virginia Courage are holding tryouts for next season's U-13 age group year. We play in WAGS division 3 and attend top tournaments, recently making the finals in both the 2007 Jefferson Cup and Virginian.
