There's a huge match up at RFK between D.C. United and defending MLS Champion Houston on Saturday. Besides the marquee match-up drawing a crowd, the Virginian soccer tournament is in town, with over 700 teams from all over the country, so expect to see lot's of kids in uniforms at RFK too! Here are a couple of articles we found about United and the match-up: Fitness is key for busy D.C. United, by Charles Boehm Addlery Awaiting His Opportunity, by John Haydon Surging D.C. host struggling Dynamo, MLSNet.com
We've been covering Crystal Palcace USA all year, but not like this article by Steven Goff of the Washington Post. This is a REALLY big deal in my opinion (not Steven Goff's story, but the fact that Crystal Palace is here). Throughout the world, where soccer (football) is the number one sport, the entire structure of competitive youth soccer is all focused on PLAYER DEVELOPMENT, and the pro clubs take the lead on that front. Once this country starts really investing in running youth development programs at a professional level, winning the World Cup won't be far behind. Bravo for Crystal Palace making that investment here, let's hope there are dozens more where that came from.
There's a TON of soccer to watch this holiday weekend! Besides stopping by just about any decent soccer field within 20 miles of Washington DC to watch youth tournament games, most of the area's professional teams are in action nearby. Here's the rundown.
