> United Win on the Road as Moreno Ties MLS Goals Record
Jaime Moreno's penalty-kick goal gave him a piece of MLS history and gave D.C. United a 2-1 win against Toronto FC on Saturday at BMO Field in Toronto. Moreno stepped up to take the kick after TFC midfielder Marvell Wynne committed a foul on D.C. striker Luciano Emilio in the penalty area in the 79th minute. Moreno's kick sailed past Toronto 'keeper Greg Sutton for his third goal of the season and the 108th league goal of his illustrious MLS career. It ties Moreno with the recently-retired Jason Kreis for the all-time lead in goals scored in MLS.

D.C. United announced Monday the club has been invited to participate in the Copa Nissan Sudamericana. The annual tournament is hosted by CONMEBOL, the South American Football Confederation, and since 2005 has included teams from CONCACAF, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.

The Washington Freedom won their opening game on the road with a 3-1 victory over the Long Island Rough Riders Women. The first Freedom goal of the 2007 season was scored by Ali Andrzejewski unassisted in the 44th minute. Long Island evened the score in the 62nd minute on a penalty kick by Melissa Shulman. Christie Welsh then scored her first and second goals as a Freedom player to solidify the win.

RFC 89 Midfielder Rahul Chaudhry has accepted a scholarship offer to play for the Dukes of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Chaudhry is a Junior at Langley High School in McLean Virginia.

RFC United's Maryellen Derenda will attend Radford University and play for the Highlanders soccer on an athletic scholarship in 2008.

Olney Boys & Girls Community Sports Association (OBGC) reports that their U13 Rangers have advanced to the Maryland State Cup Finals. They will play the Baltimore Bays in the Finals on June 2, 2007 at 12:00pm at the MD SoccerPlex Field #8.

Bethesda Soccer Club is sending nine teams (out of thirteen sides that played in the semi-finals) to the Maryland State Cup Finals.

The Northern Virginia Royals (1-2-1) did not keep the momentum gained from last their previous victory as they fell victim to a 7-0 defeat by the expansion Fredericksburg Gunners (2-0-0). The Royals return home in two weeks on Saturday June 2nd against the West Virginia Chaos. Match time is set at 7:30 PM at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

The PDL Piranhas took their 2-0 record on the road Sunday afternoon visiting Reading, Pennsylvania to face the Rage in the team's first away match of 2007. They came away with their undefeated season intact drawing 0-0.
