The Aegean Hawks defeated the Greek-American Atlas of New York in penalty kicks (4-2) after both teams ended regulation and two overtime periods tied up at 2-2. With the win, the Hawks passed through to the semifinal rounds of Region 1 US Open Cup qualifying. A May 20th match-up with AC United of Baltimore is the only obstacle to a berth in the US Open Cup and the opportunity to take down some professional teams in America's oldest and most prestigious soccer competition.

Reston FC United midfielder Emily Grant is the latest member of girls program to make a commitment to a top NCAA Division I program, announcing her decision this week to play for coach Ronnie Coveleskie's Vanderbilt Commodores on an athletic scholarship. Grant joins a stellar 2008 recruiting class that will include United teammates Kate Goldin and Caitlin Hickey, completing one of the most talented trios to sign with a NSCAA/adidas Top 25 program in the club's history.

WIN BECKHAM TICKETS from Potomac Soccer Wire. See details here

Kenya Brown of Yanks-Abroad.com believes the US Federation should set up shop in Europe to give our players there much more access to gaining international experience, and to give the team as whole a better shot at beating the traditional European powers. He says games here in the US, while good for the USSF pocketbook, are basically meaningless and serve little purpose in achieving the ultimate goal of winning a World Cup.

Clint Dempsey's first EPL goal downs Liverpool, and all but assures Fulham's survival in the EPL for next season. Visit Yanks-abroad.com for the story, and then watch the goal on YouTube.

> FC Virginia Courage Rising U-13 Girls Tryouts
Chantilly's FC Virginia Courage (formerly Sterling Courage) are seeking talented players who are personally committed to achieving long term success in their soccer career, but may be suffering from a loss of passion or confidence due to a negative current coaching environment. We thrive on re-kindling passion for the sport and then teaching players how to use that passion to drive themselves to be the best they can be. Our professional coaching staff (overseen by Director of Coaching Terry Foley) takes a positive approach to teaching with a lot of hard work, while keeping things fun. We teach by praising the good and providing constructive feedback on what needs improvement in a positive manner. We encourage risk taking and creativity, and work to provide as much playing time as possible for every player because the game itself is the best teacher of all. Tryouts are ongoing at our scheduled Tuesday and Friday training sessions, with formal tryout dates soon to be set for early June. Visit our web site for more information or email Coach Chris at hummersport@verizon.net.
