Crystal Palace played the first league match in their history tonight at Waddell Stadium in Charlotte NC. It was a beautiful night for football with the game time temperatures in the 60's. ---- Notes ----

The Springfield Youth Club has learned that one of the students who lost her life in the Virginia Tech shootings was Leslie Sherman, an alumnus of West Springfield High School and the SYC sports program. West Springfield High School has set up a scholarship in Leslie's honor and SYC has made a donation to that fund. If you are interested in participating, please send a check to West Springfield High School, c/o Finance Office, 6100 Rolling Road, Springfield, VA 22152. On the memo line of your check please write Leslie Sherman Memorial Scholarship Fund. Please keep the Sherman family, as well as families of all of those who lost their lives, in your thoughts and prayers.

Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski has released the
schedule for the 2007 Terrapins' men's soccer season. The slate includes 12 matches at Ludwig Field where the Terps went 13-2 last season. They will continue to play one of the toughest schedules in the nation as their opponents had a combined record of 211-111-38 in 2006. Seven of the Terps' 18 opponents recorded 15 or more wins last season and all but three sported a winning record.

You can
catch Maryland tonight, April 24, when they host St. John's at 6:30 p.m. in the only spring game that will be played at Ludwig Field. There is no admission charge for the game.

Head coach Bryan Williams and the VMI women's soccer program will hold their
Second Annual Spring Skills Clinic on Saturday, April 28 at Delaney Field located just behind the VMI football stadium, Foster Stadium. The Clinic will be free to all girls age 5-18 who pre-register but will cost $5 to those registering on the day of the event. The Clinic will be staffed by the coaching staff and players from the VMI women's soccer program.

The
Central Virginia Soccer Association (CVSA) will conduct its 32nd summer competition starting this June. The CVSA is the only summer league in the Richmond Metropolitan area to be sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), United States Soccer Federation (USSF), and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Registration is now open.

Total Sports in Manassas is now registering SoccerTots and SocceTouch for players 18-months through 7 years old, as well as adult futsal leagues.

---- Editor's Corner ----

Catch up with the VA State Cup scores through April 21 at VYSA.com and the Maryland scores at MSYSA.org

Kristian Dyer of ESPN has filed a great piece if you're a Bobby Convey follower. There are lots of good quotes as well as a review of Bobby's career all the way back to when he was the youngest player ever drafted in MLS and living with D.C. United's President. Bobby, now 23 feels he's ready to step into a major leadership role with the U.S. National Team.

There were some arrests in nearby Philadelphia that will shock you. A married couple in the roles of President and Treasurer of a relatively small youth soccer organizations were arrested for bleeding nearly $250,000 from the club for personal use since 1998.

The Virginia State Cup got under way Saturday, and Maryland entered it's 2nd weekend, which dramatically narrowed the field. We've updated the prediction poll on line if you want to vote and post supporting comments about which teams you think will win each age group. The Maryland U16 girls group is currently enjoying the most debate.
