U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann will speak at the 2012 US Youth Soccer Workshop
25 Jan, 2012U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann will speak at the 2012 US Youth Soccer Workshop on Friday, Feb. 17 to kick off the annual convention in Boston. Klinsmann, who was named head coach for the United Statesin late July of 2011, will give his speech from 8-9 a.m. ET at the Hynes Convention Center.
"We are extremely excited to have Jurgen Klinsmann join us at the US Youth Soccer
Workshop in Boston," President of US Youth Soccer John Sutter said. "US Youth Soccer reaches players in every corner of the country and shapes the future of elite
American soccer through effective identification and development opportunities.
Klinsmann's attendance at our Workshop highlights the tremendous relationship
between US Youth Soccer and U.S. Soccer that began more than 30 years ago."
Klinsmann brings a unique perspective to evaluating the American soccer landscape. A native of Germany, the former World Cup champion has been involved in soccer almost his entire life as a player, coach, television analyst and consultant. He relocated to California with his American wife and two children after a successful
professional career that spanned Germany, Italy, France and England. After 13 years
in the United States, he has developed a deep understanding of the American
mentality and approach to sports in this country. His education on the approach to
identifying and developing talent in the U.S. was fostered by the fact that his own
children have been involved in US Youth Soccer
Klinsmann has a history of bringing innovative ideas to help reshape the organizations for which he coaches from the youth levels on up. Since becoming the
U.S. Men's National Team coach, Klinsmann has emphasized the importance of creating a unique soccer style in American that infuses the country's blend of cultures, talent and perspective.
"I believe that the style of play should reflect the culture of the country, and
that everyone from coaches, media and fans should have a voice in the process," said
Klinsmann. "I especially look forward to discussions with all of the talented
coaches around the country so we can work to improve the game at the grass roots
level."
This style proved successful for Klinsmann when he took over as the manager of the
German National Team in 2004. He guided Germany to a third place finish in the 2006
FIFA World Cup, earning him coach of the year honors in Germany.
The US Youth Soccer Workshop will be held in Boston Feb.16-18, 2012. The annual
convention will be held at the Hynes Convention Center and is designed to further
the education of coaches, administrators, referees and enthusiasts involved in the
game.
