SOCA finding success against U.S. Academy rivals
2 Sep, 2010In recent matches against local US Soccer Development Academy squads, SOCA’s Lightning teams posted an impressive winning record.
On August 29, the homestanding U18 and U17 SOCA teams posted wins over their Richmond Kickers opponents. The U18 Lightning claimed a 2-1 victory in a tightly contested match over their Academy rivals. The U17 Lightning had an easier time, rolling to a convincing 6-0 romp over the Kickers. Lightning scored two early goals which effectively ended the match before it was long underway.
In matches held three days previous at Striker Park in Richmond, the U18’s battled with their Striker opponents before coming up just short in a 1-2 loss. The U17 SOCA Lightning tied the Striker’s Academy team 1-1 in a storm-shortened contest.
With two wins and a tie from the four matches SOCA Elite teams confirmed their ability to compete at the highest level of youth soccer. The US Soccer Development Academy is designed to include top players through a nation-wide league format. SOCA has consistently demonstrated the ability to compete successfully at the Academy level and will continue to pursue the greatest opportunities for its players.
