Georgetown men announce 2010 spring schedule

4 Feb, 2010

The Georgetown University men’s soccer squad has announced its 2010 spring schedule.  The Hoyas will play six games, including five against college squads and one against a local professional team.

Georgetown will open the spring with a contest against the University of Maryland-Baltimore County to be held at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Md. on March 27.  The four-game event will be hosted by Real Maryland FC.  The Retrievers finished with a mark of 14-6-0 last season and advanced to the America East championship game.  UMBC currently has two of the top scorers in Division I returning in junior Levi Houapeu and sophomore Andrew Bulls.

On March 30, GU will return to Richard Montgomery High School to face Real Maryland FC on its home field.  The Monarchs are a member of the United Soccer League’s Second Division and finished last season fifth in the professional league.

Following a break for the Easter holiday, Georgetown will be back in action hosting George Mason on April 9 under the lights on the Multi-Sport Field on campus.  The Patriots were 10-7-1 last season and finished with a record of 5-5-1 in the CAA.

On April 17, the Hoyas will make the short trip to American for a doubleheader against the Duke University Blue Devils and the host Eagles.  The Blue Devils were 14-7 overall and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.  Duke finished the season ranked 12th in both national polls.  American was 9-7-3 last season and appeared in the Patriot League championship game.

Georgetown will close out the spring season on April 24 with a home game against Division III power and reigning national champions the Messiah College Falcons.  Messiah won the 2009 NCAA Division III College Cup claiming its seventh title in the last ten seasons.

The weekend will also feature the 2009 Georgetown men’s soccer banquet and alumni game to be held earlier in the day.
