Former W&M player Dani Collins drafted by Philadelphia Independence in 7th round of WPS Draft
16 Jan, 2010Former William and Mary Tribe women’s soccer two-time All-American Dani Collins ’09 was drafted with the sixth pick in the seventh round (60th overall) of the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft on Friday afternoon.
With her selection, Collins becomes just the second former Tribe player to be drafted into the WPS, following Claire Zimmeck, who was drafted in the 2008 WPS Draft. Also with her selection, Collins becomes the sixth former William and Mary women’s soccer player to be drafted by a professional women’s soccer league.
At William and Mary, Collins was a two-time All-American and an Academic All-American in 2008. Collins was a three-time All-CAA First-Team honoree and was named All-Region three times as well. Over her four years playing for the College, the Tribe achieved an overall record of 53-17-16, making three trips to the NCAA Championships.
This past October, Collins was named the Assistant Director of Outreach Programs for the Philadelphia Independence. As part of her duties for the Independence, Collins looks to grow and expand the team’s community care and outreach, as well as the team’s youth development program. Collins also helps the team’s outreach efforts and community care programs, as well as provides operational support.
