Episcopal High School alumni have big weekend in college
28 Sep, 2009It was a big weekend for Episcopal High School alumni Shadow Sebele \'09 and Gift Maworere \'06, who combined to lead West Virginia University to overtime wins over Big East foes University of South Florida and Depaul. Sebele played the part of the hero on Friday night, when he raced into the box to score a golden goal to defeat #3 ranked USF just 1:12 into overtime. On Sunday afternoon Sebele assisted the game-tying goal against Depaul on a corner kick with seven minutes left. Maworere scored the dramatic game winner 4:07 into overtime finishing off a play started by Sebele. Maworere trapped the ball on his chest and drove the goal home. With the two wins WVU is 4-2-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Big East.
Sebele, who captained Episcopal to the 2009 IAC and Virginia state championships, was named to the Soccer America Men\'s Team of the Week, Big East Rookie of the Week, and WVU Athlete of the Week. Maworere is a two-year captain of the Mountaineers, and earned honorable mention All-Big East accolades following his sophomore and junior seasons.
