TSC MD Pride women in first place after WPSL opening draw and win
29 May, 2009The TSC MD Pride (1-0-1) season is off to a very bright start as they proudly sit in 1st place in the East Conference of the WPSL.
In their first game against the Atlantic City Diablos, the Pride turned in a fine performance in front of just under 400 fans, and the Diablos were very relieved to escape with a 0-0 score in a game that was abandoned in the 60th minute due to lightning.
Then, this past Saturday, the Pride followed that up with an impressive 3-2 victory on the road to Central Delaware SA Future. The Pride went behind early on though due to a defensive mix-up but soon RAAWR\'ED onto the scoreboard thanks to an outstanding free-kick from former Thunder SC youth team player, KARYN FARRAR. Karyn was a former player on Coach Jim Gormley\'s Thunder 85/86 squad.
Not to be out-done, up stepped Lisa Zanti to stamp her mark on the game. Early in the second-half, Drew Smith swung over a terrific free-kick, and there was LISA ZANTI ghosting in behind her marker to slot in a very composed side-footed volley - 2-1 to the Pride. And just minutes later, Zanti showed some excellent control as she brought down a cross with her chest in the penalty area, and just as she swivelled to shoot, she was levelled by the type of play that an NFL linebacker would have been proud of! It was a stone-wall penalty, and up stepped ANABEL JIMENEZ to stick home what ultimately became the game-winner.
The Future scored their 2nd goal in the 92nd minute to give the scoreline some respectability.
