George Mason men's recruiting class ranked one of best in USA
13 May, 2009George Mason’s 2009 men’s soccer recruiting class received accolades in a pair of national publications recently. ESPNRISE touted the Patriots’ upcoming class as one of the best in the nation, while College Soccer News listed Mason among 15 schools in the entire nation to receive a four-star rating or higher.
The incoming class includes Cooper Barham (Odessa, Texas/Permian High School), Michael D’Arrigo (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foot Hills High School), Victor Freeman (Bowie, Md./Bowie High School/Louisburg College), Alex Herrera (Arlington, Va./Yorktown High School) and Ryan Reichmann (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville High School). Barham, D’Arrigo, Herrera and Reichmann all have spent time in the U.S. Soccer youth national team program, while Freeman was a standout at Louisburg College, scoring 42 goals in two years at the school.
The incoming class joins a George Mason team that finished 14-7-2 overall, won the CAA Tournament Championship, and extended its winning streak to eight straight with a first-round NCAA win over Penn before bowing out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to the eventual national champion Maryland Terrapins. Mason finished the season ranked 19th by Soccer America and 24th by College Soccer News.
