Loyola's Ferraina named First Team Academic All-American
19 Nov, 2008Loyola senior women’s soccer player Theresa Ferraina (Long Branch, N.J./St. John Vianney H.S.) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team today for her excellence in the classroom and on the field.
Ferraina, who carries a 4.0 grade point average in business administration and finance, led Loyola in goals scored, assists and total points this season.
“Theresa truly exemplifies what being a complete student-athlete is all about,” Head Coach Katherine Vettori said. “She is dedicated to striving for excellence in every aspect of her life. I couldn’t be more proud of her for this wonderful achievement.”
Last week, the senior forward was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team.
Ferraina, who has one more year of eligibility to play and is expected to pursue a master’s degree and compete for the Greyhounds next season, scored nine goals and had eight assists for 26 points this season.
Her eight assists tied the school record for single-season assists, and she moved into the top-10 in two career categories. She is tied for eighth all-time at Loyola with 18 goals, and Ferraina is ninth on the career points list with 48.
Ferraina earned Academic All-District II First Team honors earlier this season, as well as last year, and has been named to the MAAC All-Academic Team the last two seasons.
