2007 George Mason men's soccer award winners announced
7 May, 2008In addition to announcing the three members of this year’s Hall of Fame class, George Mason men’s soccer head coach Greg Andrulis recently announced the 2007 team award winners. Each year the team hands out eight awards, which are permanently named after each one of the original Hall of Fame inductees of the class of 2006, as well as John O'Hara (2001-04).
Jonathan Borrajo, a junior last season, and Chris Chaves, a senior, headlined the award winners with each earning two pieces of hardware. Borrajo was named the Fred Thompson Team MVP and the Denis Hamlett Defensive Player of the Year, while Chaves was named the Eduardo Lima Offensive Player of the Year and the Tamir Linhart Golden Boot award winner.
Borrajo started all 18 contests for Mason last season, leading a defensive unit that posted four shutouts during the season. Chaves led the team in points (8), tied for the team lead in goals (3), and finished tied for second in assists (2). He scored the game-winning goal off of a penalty kick in the 80th minute of a 2-1 Patriot victory at
Richmond on Sept. 22.
Other award winners include Chris Carroll, who was named the Gordon Bradley Coaches Award recipient, Richard Edgar, who earned the Mike Reynolds Alumni Award, Sean Kelley, who won the Martin Dunphy Goalkeeper of the Year Award, and Eric Zuehsow, who was named the John O’Hara Newcomer of the Year.
